TRANSLATION TECHNIQUES APPLIED BY STUDENTS IN TRANSLATING EXPLANATION TEXT

Abstract: Translating text is an activity done by students to explore and improve their skill in transferring the idea of the source text into target text. The activity as conducting the process of translation is not only changing one language into others but sending the author’s message to the target readers. There are some techniques maybe applied in transferring the idea into target text in order to get the work of translation acceptable, readable and natural for the target readers. This study is aimed to investigate how the students do in transferring the idea of the English explanation text into Indonesian. To obtain the data, the students were required to do the assignment and the classroom observation was also conducted. When the students have finished their project, the focus group discussion was also conducted to investigate the translation techniques based on Molina and Albir’s theory (2002:509) applied in translating Explanation Text. Procedures Used in Translating Cultural Words of the Movie Eat Pray Love

Translation is a kind of activity of transferring the author’s idea from source language into target text, the culture involving. Some cultural words are often considered as the difficulties to transfer. “Eat Pray Love†is an American biographical romantic which has received many positive reviews and later in 2009, it became the New York Times Best  Seller for 187 weeks. This research is conducted to find the pattern of cultural words translation procedures used by the translator in translating the transcript and subtitle. The unit of analysis of this research was in the form of words, phrases and clauses in the movie entitled Eat Pray Love. This study has the aim to gain a complete understanding in translating cultural words, the problems that may occur then how to solve it. The descriptive-qualitative approach has been applied during this research then selecting the cultural words. The result of this study reveals that from 126 cultural words found in the movie. The frequency of cultural words found the most are material culture and social organization. Microstrategies Analysis of Cultural Categories in the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia

The role of translation is very important when it comes to connect different ideas from the source language to the target language. Due to the cultural diversity of language, this also affects the translation result to emerge so that the ideas can be easily understood by the target reader. Hence, this matter encourages the researcher to analyze the usage of microstrategies in the English translation of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. Furthermore, this research also utilizes the theory of cultural categories emphasized by (Newmark, 1988) in order to determine the cultural aspects that can be found in the English version of “Undang-undang Dasar Tahun 1945” (the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia). The result of this research shows that the most found cultural category in the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia is social organization category with 62.5% followed by social culture category with 37.5%. Additionally, the microstrategies analysis shows that the most used type of translation in the English translation of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia is non-creative translation with the percentage of 62.5%. Generative Literature: The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Creative Writing Process

This study explores the emerging phenomenon of AI-generated literature and its implications for creative writing, focusing on the characteristics of AI-generated texts, the impact of AI-human collaboration on the creative process, and the challenges posed by these technologies for traditional concepts of authorship, originality, and creativity. Through a comparative analysis of selected AI-generated literary works and a case study of the "Pharmako-AI" project, this research reveals the distinct stylistic, thematic, and structural features of AI-generated literature, as well as the complex dynamics of AI-human collaboration in the creative process. The findings suggest that while AI can serve as a powerful tool for creative exploration and experimentation, it also has limitations in terms of consistency, coherence, and emotional depth, and requires significant human input and judgment to shape the final literary output. The study contributes to the understanding of AI in creative writing by providing concrete insights into the capabilities and limitations of these technologies, and by highlighting the need for new frameworks and models to understand the nature of creative agency in the age of AI. The implications of AI-generated literature for the field of literature and future literary practices are discussed, including the potential for new forms of literary expression, new modes of authorship and collaboration, and new challenges to traditional concepts of originality and creativity. The study concludes with recommendations for future research, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of new theoretical and methodological approaches to analyze and evaluate AI-generated literature.Â

199 The Translation Procedures of Cultural Expressions Applied in “A Game of Thronesâ€

Language and culture are the main objects in a translation process. The cultural expression are often found in some kinds of text which are interested to explore. Translation procedures are needed especially in translating cultural expressions. The definition of procedure in general is a series of actions that are done in a certain way or order; an established or accepted way of doing something. This study focuses to find the translation procedures of cultural expressions applied in the target text. The descriptive qualitative method is applied to analyze the data, since the aim of the study is to find the categories of cultural expressions and the translation procedures applied the most in the cultural words found in A Game of Thrones novel. The framework by Peter Newmark is applied for examining the data. Based on the analysis that has been conducted, the cultural category found the most in A Game of Thrones novel is ecology and the least cultural category found is social culture. PEMANFAATAN ONLINE DICTIONARY DALAM MENTERJEMAHKAN TEKS PROSEDUR BAHASA INDONESIA KE DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS

Kemampuan menterjemahkan merupakan kemampuan bahasa yang wajib dikuasai oleh mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuanmendeskripsikan pemanfaatan online dictionary dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menterjemahkan mahasiswa. Pendekatankualitatif digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan berbagai jenis kesalahan dalam pemanfaatan online dictionary untukmenterjemahkan teks prosedur. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara yaitu dengan dokumen tertulis. Sumber datadiambil dari teks terjemahan bahasa Inggris dari mahasiswa semester 5 Program Studi Sastra Inggris Udinus denganmemanfaatkan online dictionary. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa terdapat dua bentuk kesalahan yang dilakukan dalampenerjemahan yaitu kesalahan leksikal dan kesalahan gramatikal. MAKSIMALISASI PELAYANAN PRIMA MELALUI PELATIHAN BAHASA ASING PRAKTIS BAGI SERIKAT PEKERJA PARIWISATA BOROBUDUR DI DESA KAJORAN MAGELANG

 Pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan judul “Maksimalisasi Pelayanan Prima Melalui Pelatihan Bahasa Asing Praktis Bagi Serikat Pekerja Pariwisata Borobudur di Desa Kajoran Magelang” ini mengambil khalayak sasaran anggota serikat pekerja pariwisata Borobudur Magelang yang berusaha untuk mengembangkan dan menghidupkan kembali geliat pariwisata setelah masa pandemi covid 19. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah metode latihan atau drill yaitu suatu metode penyampaian materi pelatihan atau informasi melalui bentuk latihan-latihan.
