Gambling is a growing problem in the world, therefore, it is important to understand the variables that affect gambling. The present article will discuss the behavior analytic perspective, which has a scientific approach to the understanding of behavior and attempts to find the functional relationships between the behavior and other relevant environmental conditions. Variables such as reinforcement schedules, different verbal operants, transfer of stimulusfunctions, delayed consequences, delayed discounting, and superstition illusion of control seem to be important in the understanding of gambling behavior. The role of verbal behavior and rule-governed behavior are specifically discussed as central components of the establishment and maintenance of excessive gambling. Experimental procedures in the study verbal behavior are discussed along with the protocol analysis with the ‚Äúthink aloud‚ÄĚ procedure, a procedure that seems to be useful for the study of self-generated rules in people with gambling problems. In spite of the existence of general empirical and cumulative knowledge about the development of gambling behaviour, the authors argue that gambling should be a relevant focus of research for behavior analysts

Background: Simulation is an educational method that can be used to clarify complex issues. Challenges related to medication management in various healthcare facilities including nursing homes are known. We wanted to see if simulation could be useful to bring out different challenges that are associated with this area. The purpose of this article is to describe nurses' and health care assistants' experiences of participating in simulation, and what reflections arise around medication management in nursing homes.¬†Method: Qualitative method with focus group interviews.¬†Results: Nurses and health care assistants became aware of various challenges related to medication management using simulation. Most of them experienced the simulation as a useful method in raising awareness. Most of them felt that they learned something that gave new insight into their own work situation. There were challenges related to distractions and stress, a shortage of nurses as well as unclear responsibilities and task distributions.¬†Conclusion: Simulation as a method can be awareness-raising in order to visualize various challenges related to medication management in nursing homes.

The 14 articles presented in this publication represent some of the latest and most relevant research on rural settlement and farming from the Late Neolithic through the Early Medieval Period in Norway. It deals with the impact of climate change, plague and the AD 536√Ę 7 volcanic event and some of the earliest farms north of the Arctic Circle. It provides new perspectives and archaeological evidence for the Viking age farm of Norway, differences in regional settlement structures of agrarian societies, the relation between houses and graves in the Iron Age, and varying food practices as indicators of societal change

High quality care relies on interprofessional teamwork. We developed a short simulation-based course for final year medical, nursing and nursing anaesthesia students, using scenarios from emergency medicine. The aim of this paper is to describe the adaptation of an interprofessional simulation course in an undergraduate setting and to report participants’ experiences with the course and students’ learning outcomes. We evaluated the course collecting responses from students through questionnaires with both closed-ended and open-ended questions, supplemented by the facilitators’ assessment of students’ performance. Our data is based on responses from 310 students and 16 facilitators who contributed through three evaluation phases. In the analysis, we found that students reported emotional activation and learning outcomes within the domains self-insight and stress management, understanding of the leadership role, insight into teamwork, and skills in team communication. In subsequent questionnaire studies students reported having gained insights about communication, teamwork and leadership, and they believed they would be better leaders of teams and/or team members after having completed the course. Facilitators’ observations suggested a progress in students’ non-technical skills during the course. The facilitators observed that nursing anaesthesia students seemed to be more comfortable in finding their role in the team than the two other groups. In conclusion, we found that an interprofessional simulation-based emergency team training course with a focus on leadership, communication and teamwork, was feasible to run on a regular basis for large groups of students. The course improved the students’ team skills and received a favourable evaluation from both students and faculty. The final version of this research has been published in Journal of Interprofessional Care. © 2018 Taylor & Franci
