Gauge Field Formulation of Adiabatic Spin Torques
Previous calculation of spin torques for small-amplitude magnetization
dynamics around a uniformly magnetized state [J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. {\bf 75}
(2006) 113706] is extended here to the case of finite-amplitude dynamics. This
is achieved by introducing an `` adiabatic'' spin frame for conduction
electrons, and the associated SU(2) gauge field. In particular, the Gilbert
damping is shown to arise from the time variation of the spin-relaxation source
terms in this new frame, giving a new physical picture of the damping. The
present method will allow a `` first-principle'' derivation of spin torques
without any assumptions such as rotational symmetry in spin space.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Negative Differential Resistivity and Positive Temperature Coefficient of Resistivity effect in the diffusion limited current of ferroelectric thin film capacitors
We present a model for the leakage current in ferroelectric thin- film
capacitors which explains two of the observed phenomena that have escaped
satisfactory explanation, i.e. the occurrence of either a plateau or negative
differential resistivity at low voltages, and the observation of a Positive
Temperature Coefficient of Resistivity (PTCR) effect in certain samples in the
high-voltage regime. The leakage current is modelled by considering a
diffusion-limited current process, which in the high-voltage regime recovers
the diffusion-limited Schottky relationship of Simmons already shown to be
applicable in these systems
Electrochemical Surface Modification of Aluminium Sheets for Application to Nano-electronic Devices: Anodization Aluminium and Electrodeposition of Cobalt-Copper
A nano-porous anodized aluminium oxide layer was synthesized on the surface of bulk aluminium at a wide range of anodization voltages. The barrier layer at the pore bottom of anodized aluminium oxide layer was chemically etched to make good electrical contact for nanowires electrodeposited in the pores thus formed on metallic aluminium substrates. Cathodic polarization was examined at a wide range of cathode potentials to investigate the electrodeposition behaviour of Cu and Co into the pores. Co81Cu19/Cu multilayered nanowires were fabricated using a pulse-plating technique into the templates. Co-alloy layer and Cu layer thicknesses were adjusted to 10 nm, by controlling the deposition times. The temperature dependence of the resistance of Co81Cu19/Cu multilayered nanowires grown on the template presented clean metallic characteristics and a giant magnetoresistance (GMR) of 23% was reached at 4
A Study of the LEP and SLD Measurements of
A systematic study is made of the data dependence of the parameter
, that, since 1995, has shown a deviation from the Standard Model
prediction of between 2.4 and 3.1 standard deviations. Issues addressed
include: the effect of particular measurements, values found by individual
experiments, LEP/SLD comparison, and the treatment of systematic errors. The
effect, currently at the 2.4 level, is found to vary in the range from
1.7 to 2.9 by excluding marginal or particularly sensitive
data. Since essentially the full LEP and SLD Z decay data sets are now analysed
the meaning of the deviation, (new physics, or marginal statistical
fluctuation) is unlikely to be given by the present generation of colliders.Comment: 15 pages 7 figures 7 table
Construction of two Neurospora crassa Lambda ZapII-cDNA libraries
In the presence of the anti-microtubule agent benomyl, N. crassa synthesizes and secretes a major 60 kDa protein in the culture medium. This protein is absent in untreated cells (Rossier et al. 1989. Eur. J. Cell Biol. 50:333-339). To clone the gene coding for the 60 kDa protein and to unravel its function, we have constructed a cDNA library from benomyl-treated cells ( benomyl cDNA library). A second cDNA library was constructed from untreated cells in order to clone genes coding for cytoskeletal proteins ( standard cDNA library)
Symmetries of the Chern-Simons Theory in the Axial Gauge, Manifold with Boundary
The field equations of the Chern-Simons theory quantized in the axial gauge
are shown to be completely determined by supersymmetry Ward identities which
express the invariance of the theory under the topological supersymmetry of
Delduc, Gieres and Sorella together with the usual Slavnov identity without
requiring any action principle.Comment: 8 pages LaTeX, report UGVA-DPT 1994/01-84
Shot noise of series quantum point contacts intercalating chaotic cavities
Shot noise of series quantum point contacts forming a sequence of cavities in
a two dimensional electron gas are studied theoretically and experimentally.
Noise in such a structure originates from local scattering at the point
contacts as well as from chaotic motion of the electrons in the cavities. We
found that the measured shot noise is in reasonable agreement with our
theoretical prediction taking the cavity noise into account.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Mechanisms for higher in copper oxide superconductors; Ideas from band calculations
Band calculations for the hole doped LaCuO system show that
artificial periodicities of Ba dopants can give the material different
properties than from a uniform distribution of dopants. A periodicity within
the planes make static pseudogaps which could be tuned to raise the
density-of-states (DOS) at and the superconducting .
A periodic doping dependence perpendicular to the CuO planes can increase the
matrix element for spin fluctuations.Comment: 1 Figur
