    Study of alkaline hydrothermal activation of belite cements by thermal analysis

    The effect of alkaline hydrothermal activation of class-C fly ash belite cement was studied using thermal analysis (TG/DTG) by determining the increase in the combined water during a period of hydration of 180 days. The results were compared with those obtained for a belite cement hydrothermally activated in water. The two belite cements were fabricated via the hydrothermal-calcination route of class-C fly ash in 1 M NaOH solution (FABC-2-N) or demineralised water (FABC-2-W). From the results, the effect of the alkaline hydrothermal activation of belite cement (FABC-2-N) was clearly differentiated, mainly at early ages of hydration, for which the increase in the combined water was markedly higher than that of the belite cement that was hydrothermally activated in water. Important direct quantitative correlations were obtained among physicochemical parameters, such as the combined water, the BET surface area, the volume of nano-pores, and macro structural engineering properties such as the compressive mechanical strength

    Para prevenir el c√°ncer de forma eficaz es importante conocer c√≥mo se origina y c√≥mo se desarrolla la enfermedad. Evidencias recientes indican que este proceso se origina en las c√©lulas madre y que el principal motivo biol√≥gico del c√°ncer es la acumulaci√≥n de divisiones celulares en estas c√©lulas. Cuanto mayor es el n√ļmero de divisiones que acumula una c√©lula madre, mayor es el riesgo de que √©sta se divida de forma descontrolada y origine un tumor. Los factores que promueven la divisi√≥n de estas c√©lulas juegan por tanto un papel fundamental en el desarrollo de la enfermedad. Este es el caso del factor de crecimiento insul√≠nico tipo I (IGF-1), principal mediador de los efectos de la hormona de crecimiento. Al estudiar su relaci√≥n con el c√°ncer, descubrimos que bajar sus niveles puede ayudarnos a prevenir el riesgo de padecer esta enfermedad, por lo que hemos analizado tanto su eje de activaci√≥n como sus efectos. Las diferentes alternativas estudiadas pueden dividirse en dos grupos; farmacol√≥gicas y no farmacol√≥gicas. En el primer grupo destacan una serie de f√°rmacos que act√ļan en diferentes puntos de su eje de activaci√≥n: octre√≥tido y lanre√≥tido a nivel del hipot√°lamo, pegvisomant y metformina a nivel hep√°tico e inhibidores competitivos y no competitivos de IGF-1 junto con la rapamicina a nivel del receptor de IGF-1. Dentro de las estrategias no farmacol√≥gicas tenemos las modificaciones diet√©ticas, como la restricci√≥n selectiva de amino√°cidos tanto esenciales como no esenciales. Desde el punto de vista de la prevenci√≥n, destaca la restricci√≥n selectiva de amino√°cidos como la estrategia m√°s adecuada para actuar sobre los niveles de IGF-1, y, por consiguiente, disminuir el riesgo de padecer c√°ncer.Universidad de Sevilla. Estas aulas persiguen un doble objetivo: ofrecer al paciente pedi√°trico la informaci√≥n necesaria para mejorar su estado de salud, y garantizarle una escolarizaci√≥n regular durante su estancia en el hospital. Una de las herramientas educativas m√°s √ļtiles en estas aulas es el video educativo, el cual, estimula el aprendizaje y mejora el estado psicol√≥gico del paciente.     Restoration in 1942, the Colegio Mayor de Santa Cruz had been a pioneer in enforcing the existing regulations and in writing down its statutes according to them. Regarding to the economic acounting management, its regulation was not very extensive in the different statutes, it focused on topics related to the control such as the elaboration of budgets, accountability balance and the subordination of its accounting to the university.This lack of regulation is in contrast with the characteristics of its accounting system since 1957, when Francisco Iba√Īez Puche took responsibility of the administration of the colegio and designed a plan that increased the quantity and quality of the economic and financial information and divided the administrative organization in three aspects: in the first place, the administration system, paying attention to the problems related to food supplies, staff and the general services of the colegio; in the second place, the double-entry bookkeeping system, using a diario-mayor book, and formed by a reduced number of accounts, which allowed him to elaborate an advanced accountability, coming ahead of the legal regulations; and in the third place, the economic system, highlighting the need for increasing incomes, reducing the delay in the collection of subsidies and grants and the three-month elaboration of the budgets and accounting considering the uncertainty of the prices.Desde su restauraci√≥n en 1942, el Colegio Mayor Santa Cruz fue pionero en aplicar la normativa vigente y redactar unos estatutos acordes a la misma.     En este documento se aborda el contexto en el que se logra el reconocimiento de los pueblos ind√≠genas en Argentina y se analiza el significado de tal reforma constitucional de 1994. El objetivo que nos propusimos fue mostrar que el reconocimiento de los pueblos ind√≠genas como sujetos de derechos, implica cambios en la fisonom√≠a y en el comportamiento institucional de todos los niveles de gobierno, transformaciones que no se han creado de forma consecuente. Debido a estas razones, todav√≠a no se cuenta con las condiciones para atender cabalmente los derechos humanos de los pueblos ind√≠genas. Es decir, el fortalecimiento de la democracia en este pa√≠s, requiere la puesta en marcha de pol√≠ticas p√ļblicas que permitan que las autoridades hagan realidad el texto constitucional respecto a su obligaci√≥n con los derechos de los pueblos ind√≠genas y la poblaci√≥n no ind√≠gena, desde enfoques interculturales.This text addresses the context on which the acknowledgement of the indigenous people in Argentina is achieved and it analyzes the meaning of the constitutional reform of 1994. The proposed objective was to show that the acknowledgement of the indigenous people as subjects of law implies changes in the physiognomy and institutional behavior of all the government levels, transformations that have not been created in a consequent way and because of this reasons there is still a lack in the conditions to properly attend the human rights of the indigenous people. That is to say, the strengthening of the democracy in this country requires the implementation of public policies that allow the authorities to give fulfillment to the constitutional text about the intercultural treatment between them, the indigenous people and the non-indigenous people.Neste documento aborda-se o contexto no que se consegue o reconhecimento dos povos ind√≠genas em Argentina e se analisa o significado de tal reforma constitucional de 1994. O objetivo que nos propusemos foi mostrar que o reconhecimento dos povos ind√≠genas como sujeitos de direitos implica mudan√ßas na fisonom√≠a e no comportamento institucional de todos os n√≠veis de governo, transforma√ß√Ķes que n√£o se criaram de forma consequente e que por estas raz√Ķes ainda n√£o se conta com as condi√ß√Ķes para atender cabalmente os direitos humanos dos povos ind√≠genas.     Trespassing Physical Boundaries: Transgression, Vulnerability and Resistance in Sarah Kane’s \u3cem\u3eBlasted\u3c/em\u3e (1995)

    Sarah Kane’s Blasted has been analyzed from various perspectives that address the layers of destruction it exposes. From the questioning of its title and meaning, to the unravelling of the protagonists’ abusive relationship, the analyses have emphasized the depiction of vulnerability as the defining human trait that Jean Ganteau observes in contemporary British literature. However, a key aspect has been overlooked in the critical response to the play: for Kane vulnerability does not equal helplessness, but rather stands in opposition to it. Hence, this article concentrates on how Blasted formulates a new understanding of vulnerability that fits Judith Butler’s later redefinition of such notion as a trigger for resistance. It argues that, facing gender-based trauma, Kane dismantles the conditions that allow for a patronizing configuration of vulnerability in space by relocating the victim to an actual battlefield. Following Sarah Bracke’s conception of governmental security as resilient, the article explores Kane’s multisided articulations of violence, vulnerability and trauma. It traces human relations as well as the literal rupture of space. From the hostile environment of a warzone, the notions of victimhood and fragility become rearticulated to undertake the responsibility of survival, questioning our passivity and ethical duties towards Others
