The impact of teacher wages on the performance of students: evidence from PISA
Teacher profile and characteristics are not weightless because student achievements are heavily teacher dependent. In this detailed and in-depth research, the impact of teacher wages on students’ achievement was assessed in different ways by using different measuring sticks; starting salary, salary after 15 year of experience, salary per hour of net teaching time and salary ratio to GDP per capita and by using country scores, of 15 year old pupil enrolled in lower secondary school, in OECD member countries. For this propose PISA 2000, 2003 and 2006 survey data of students’ scores were used. The independent variables “wages” was regressed on the dependent variable “students total mean country score”. The results of these analyses gave an indication that there is a positive impact of teacher wages on students’ performance.characteristics, profile, qualities, impact, teacher, learning, achievements, performance, student, salary, wages, gender, PISA, OECD
Fixed-to-Variable Length Distribution Matching
Fixed-to-variable length (f2v) matchers are used to reversibly transform an
input sequence of independent and uniformly distributed bits into an output
sequence of bits that are (approximately) independent and distributed according
to a target distribution. The degree of approximation is measured by the
informational divergence between the output distribution and the target
distribution. An algorithm is developed that efficiently finds optimal f2v
codes. It is shown that by encoding the input bits blockwise, the informational
divergence per bit approaches zero as the block length approaches infinity. A
relation to data compression by Tunstall coding is established.Comment: 5 pages, essentially the ISIT 2013 versio
Concircular vector fields for Kantowski Sachs and Bianchi type III spacetimes
This paper intends to obtain concircular vector fields of Kantowski Sachs and
Bianch type III spacetimes. For this purpose, ten conformal Killing equations
and their general solution in the form of conformal Killing vector fields are
derived along with their conformal factors. The obtained conformal Killing
vector fields are then placed in Hessian equations to obtain the final form of
concircular vector fields. The existence of concircular symmetry imposes
restrictions on the metric functions. The conditions imposing restrictions on
these metric functions are obtained as a set of integrability conditions. It is
shown that Kantowski Sachs and Bianchi type III spacetimes admit four, six, or
fifteen dimensional concircular vector fields. It is established that for
Einstein spaces, every conformal Killing vector field is a concircular vector
field. Moreover, it is explored that every concircular vector field obtained
here is also a conformal Ricci collineation.Comment: 21 pages, 23 Reference
Informational Divergence and Entropy Rate on Rooted Trees with Probabilities
Rooted trees with probabilities are used to analyze properties of a variable
length code. A bound is derived on the difference between the entropy rates of
the code and a memoryless source. The bound is in terms of normalized
informational divergence. The bound is used to derive converses for exact
random number generation, resolution coding, and distribution matching.Comment: 5 pages. With proofs and illustrating exampl
Fixed-to-Variable Length Resolution Coding for Target Distributions
The number of random bits required to approximate a target distribution in
terms of un-normalized informational divergence is considered. It is shown that
for a variable-to-variable length encoder, this number is lower bounded by the
entropy of the target distribution. A fixed-to-variable length encoder is
constructed using M-type quantization and Tunstall coding. It is shown that the
encoder achieves in the limit an un-normalized informational divergence of zero
with the number of random bits per generated symbol equal to the entropy of the
target distribution. Numerical results show that the proposed encoder
significantly outperforms the optimal block-to-block encoder in the finite
length regime.Comment: Essentially the ITW 2013 final version. Compared to v1, minor typos
were corrected and Fig. 1 with an example variable length encoder was adde
IMPACT OF SERVICE QUALITY ON CUSTOMER SATISFACTION: EVIDENCES FROM THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY IN PAKISTAN
The purpose of this study is to contribute to the literature of service quality importance in restaurant industry. The study has been based upon the Servqual technique and Dineserv tool of improving the quality by the service providing organizations. The study is undertaken from the perspective of Pakistani Restaurant Industry and the customers' perceptions vis-à-vis restaurant dining. Two variables of Servqual, i.e. Tangibles and Responsiveness, have been examined to demonstrate the significance of service quality on customer satisfaction. The results endorse the importance of enhanced complementary service standards in restaurant industry. Finally, the findings provide an insight for the Pakistani restaurant service providing establishments and suggestion have been made for the caretakers of the industry on ways to improve service quality.marketing; restaurants; servqual; customer satisfaction
Poverty, inflation and economic growth: empirical evidence from Pakistan
This study aims to investigate the role of economic growth and inflation in explaining the prevalence of poverty in Pakistan. ARDL bound testing approach to co-integration confirms the existence of long run relationship among the variables of poverty, economic growth, inflation, investment and trade openness over the period of 1972-2008. Empirical results show that economic growth and investment have negative and inflation has positive impact on poverty. The effect of trade openness on poverty is insignificant in this study. The short run analysis reveals that economic growth has negative and inflation has positive impact on poverty whereas the role of investment and trade openness in poverty reduction in short run is not significant.Poverty, Inflation, Economic Grovvth, Pakistan, Macroeconomic Policy, Welfare, Trade Openness
