    Get PDF
A detailed snow avalanche susceptibility map of the eastern hillside in the Aramo Range (Cantabrian Mountains) is presented at a scale of 1:25,000. The Aramo Range is one of the major middle-altitude mountains of the Asturian Central Massif. Although it has of moderate height (maximum altitude of 1791 m a.s.l.), its eastern slope presents unusual snow avalanche activity. Specifically, a hundred of snow avalanche tracks have been mapped based on meticulous fieldwork and supported by interviews with local people, searches in newspaper archives, photointerpretation, and calculations based on the digital terrain model and geographic information system. As a result, a susceptibility map has been elaborated, which shows the suitability of combining fieldwork and geographic information technology. The composition consists of two maps that detail how the susceptibility mapping is obtained. The section analysed is limited to the eastern slope of the Aramo Range, whose total surface area is 1555.62 ha

Landforms in the Campo de Calatrava Volcanic Field (Ciudad Real, Central Spain)

A detailed geomorphological map of the Campo de Calatrava Volcanic Field (CCVF) is presented at a scale of 1:50,000. The Campo de Calatrava, located on the south-eastern edge of the Hercynian Massif, is one of the most unusual volcanic areas of the Iberian Peninsula. The volcanic activity develops chronologically from Upper Miocene to Holocene, with a wide range of styles and eruptive dynamics that have created a variety of forms and types of volcanoes, the abundance of maars being outstanding. Thus, this map represents both the landforms of volcanic origin and the interferences that volcanic activity has caused in other processes and forms, offering the reader the key to understanding the origin and fundamental features of the landscape of the territory. Also shown is the crucial role geomorphological mapping can play as a basic tool in the conservation of natural heritage and in territorial planning. The mapping system applied is the French CNRS RCP 77, although various local adaptations have been incorporated. The map legend consists of 80 elements arranged in 10 sections, in which a wide variety of morphostructures, forms and deposits produced under varios types of both relict and active morphogenetic systems are identified

Supersymmetric Branes on AdS_5 x Y^{p,q} and their Field Theory Duals

We systematically study supersymmetric embeddings of D-brane probes of different dimensionality in the AdS_5xY^{p,q} background of type IIB string theory. The main technique employed is the kappa symmetry of the probe's worldvolume theory. In the case of D3-branes, we recover the known three-cycles dual to the dibaryonic operators of the gauge theory and we also find a new family of supersymmetric embeddings. The BPS fluctuations of dibaryons are analyzed and shown to match the gauge theory results. Supersymmetric configurations of D5-branes, representing domain walls, and of spacetime filling D7-branes (which can be used to add flavor) are also found. We also study the baryon vertex and some other embeddings which break supersymmetry but are nevertheless stable.Comment: LaTeX, 2 figures, 54 pages; v2: discussions sharpened at several points, new subsection and references adde

    The Tourist Sector: Italian Experience

    Get PDF
This work takes into account a theoretical discussion about the relationship between the private and public sectors with specific reference to Italy. It argues that three contexts are important, namely the ‘task’, ‘normative’ and ‘organisational’ environments. The second part of the paper reports some findings from research in progress. This describes the attitudes of Italian staff working in the public sector of tourism to the issue of the relationship between the public and private sector. South Italian managers rank motivational factors highly, while north Italian managers seem more concerned about issues of co-ordination and the quality of service provision

Economic - Organizational Analysis of the Public Tourism in Campania, Italy: Management and Human Asset Issues

The study intends to analyze the change of management culture within the Campania Public Tourism Sector (CPTS). The aim of the study is to evaluate, through the SWOT analysis, the elements that are relevant to the change of the system logic from bureaucratic to competitive. The differences are explained in figures n. 2 and n. 3 and tables 3 and 4. New young managers working in the CPTS have both theoretical skills and operative knowledge. Theoretical skills are related to education and training (non-humanistic). Managers entering the CPTS have also gained operative knowledge of innovative financial services. This knowledge represents a strong discontinuity with the bureaucratic culture that has characterized the CPTS for a long time, resulting in a negative performance of the business model of human and financial assets. The CPTS offers an ample chance for experimentation. Its strength is linked to the richness of natural, historical and cultural heritage assets of Campania region. On the other side, the organizational bottlenecks and the high incidence of political decision makers constitute the sector’s negative features. A competitiveness-enhancing reform related to professional skills, management capabilities and training needs to be started but the process is still in progress.
