Direction dependent free energy singularity of the asymmetric six-vertex model

The transition from the ordered commensurate phase to the incommensurate gaussian phase of the antiferroelectric asymmetric six-vertex model is investigated by keeping the temperature constant below the roughening point and varying the external fields (h,v)(h,v). In the (h,v)(h,v) plane, the phase boundary is approached along straight lines δv=kδh\delta v=k \delta h, where (δh,δv)(\delta h,\delta v) measures the displacement from the phase boundary. It is found that the free energy singularity displays the exponent 3/2 typical of the Pokrovski-Talapov transition δfconst(δh)3/2\delta f \sim const (\delta h)^{3/2} for any direction other than the tangential one. In the latter case δf\delta f shows a discontinuity in the third derivative.Comment: 18 pages, Latex, 1 figure, minor corrections and two references change

Non-local image deconvolution by Cauchy sequence

We present the deconvolution between two smooth function vectors as a Cauchy sequence of weight functions. From this we develop a Taylor series expansion of the convolution problem that leads to a non-local approximation for the deconvolution in terms of continuous function spaces. Optimisation of this form against a given measure of error produces a theoretically more exact algorithm. The discretization of this formulation provides a deconvolution iteration that deconvolves images quicker than the Richardson-Lucy algorithm.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure

Time optimal simultaneous control of two level quantum systems

In this paper, we solve the problem of simultaneously driving in minimum time to arbitrary final conditions, N two level quantum systems subject to independent controls. The solution of this problem is obtained via an explicit description of the reachable set of the associated control system on SU(2). The treatment generalizes previous results on the time optimal control of two level quantum systems and suggests that similar techniques could be used to solve the minimum time control problem for a larger class of right invariant systems on Lie groups
