QR code awareness in Stockholm, Sweden
This tech report describes the findings of a street survey on
awareness of QR codes (2D barcodes) of the general public in
Stockholm, Sweden. 108 passers-by were surveyed. Of these
participants, a large majority (77%) did not recognize a QR code, and
8% reported seeing such a code before, but did not know it could be
scanned using a mobile phone app. Only 15% knew what the shown QR code
was, and that it could be read using a QR code reader on a mobile
phone. The awareness of QR codes by the general public could be
considered rather low, and their utility in Swedish public settings is
currently debatable
What Types of Perceived Governance Indicators Matter the Most for Private Investment in Middle East and North Africa
By using a simultaneous equations model, this paper establishes that the perceived quality of governance, which is measured by three different indicators “Quality of Administration”, “Public Accountability” and “Political Stability”, has a positive effect on the private investment decisions in the developing countries. Our model allows us to point out the fact that the mechanisms through which each type of indicator affects private investment are different. In addition to our primary result we also show that Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region could have attained a better private investment performance if it had reached a more advanced level of perceived institutions in last two decades. The low level of public accountability, among other governance deficiencies, was predominantly responsible for the deficiency in private investment in MENA.cerdi

By using a simultaneous equations model, this paper establishes that the perceived quality of governance, which is measured by three different indicators “Quality of Administrationâ€, “Public Accountability†and “Political Stabilityâ€, has a positive effect on the private investment decisions in the developing countries. Our model allows us to point out the fact that the mechanisms through which each type of indicator affects private investment are different. In addition to our primary result we also show that Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region could have attained a better private investment performance if it had reached a more advanced level of perceived institutions in last two decades. The low level of public accountability, among other governance deficiencies, was predominantly responsible for the deficiency in private investment in MENA.
Comparison on experimental and numerical results for helical swimmers inside channels
Swimming micro robots are becoming feasible in biomedical applications such as targeted drug delivery, opening clogged arteries and diagnosis owing to recent developments in micro and nano manufacturing technologies. It has been demonstrated at various scales that micro helices with magnetic coating or attached to a magnet can move in fluids with the application of external rotating magnetic fields. The motion of micro swimmers interacting with flow inside channels needs to be well understood especially for medical applications where the motion of micro robots inside arteries and conduits in the body become pertinent. In this work, swimming of helical micro robots with magnetic heads inside tubes is modeled with the resistive force theory (RFT) and validated with experiments conducted in glycerin filled mini glass channels placed in rotational magnetic fields. The time-averaged forward velocities of magnetically driven micro swimmers that are calculated by the RFT model agree very well with experimental results

Understanding Going Concern in Auditing: Seker Poultry, Inc.
Under the going concern assumption, an entity is viewed as continuing in business for the foreseeable future. General purpose financial statements are prepared on a going concern basis, unless management either intends to liquidate the entity or to cease operations, or has no realistic alternative but to do so. In this case study, we examine the recent financial problems of Seker Poultry, Inc. – one of the listed companies in Borsa Istanbul –and their impacts on the financial statement audit process. This case provides an opportunity to examine the auditor’s judgment process and responsibilities regarding the going concern assumption. This case uses information in Seker’s recent publicly available financial statements and annual reports. The case can be used in undergraduate or graduate level audit courses
Data envelopment analysis and efficiency analysis of higher education institutions: Example of Selçuk University
The Ministry of National Education and the Council of Higher Education are
authorized and responsible for studies on improving the educational quality of higher
education institutions in our country, implementation of educational activities,
balanced distribution of higher education services throughout the country, to take
measures to ensure equality of opportunities and opportunities for candidates to
access to higher education through effective and efficient use. The fact that
universities are decision-makers, have independent legal entities, and act
independently in decision-making and implementation; lack of a foresight mechanism
for the decisions to be taken, with the usefulness of the actions taken, and the
appropriateness of the decisions taken; act independently in decision-making raises
the problem of lack of knowledge of the activities of universities and units. In this
study, it was tried to determine how effective and efficient they work with input
(number of academic staff, number of administrative staff, number of students,
amount of appropriation, etc.) and output (number of graduates, expenditure amount,
academic incentive points, etc.) values used by Selçuk University affiliated faculties
and four year college. It is important to inform senior management about the current
situation and to create insight in decisions to be taken under variable factors for the
future. In this study, Selçuk University 2018 Administration Annual Report and 2018
Academic Incentive Score data were used. In this study, data envelopment analysis,
which is a parameterless technique which uses linear programming principles, is
used to perform relative efficiency analysis in order to enable comparison with each
other. As a result of the study, relative efficiency analysis of the units were performed
and evaluations were made regarding the ways in which the input and output values were not effective and the ways to be effective. If it is effective, in order to maintain
the current level of activity, if the idle (unutilized capacity) capacity arose, the
assessments regarding the idle capacity were made
Bio-inspired micro robots swimming in channels
Swimming micro robots that mimic micro organisms have a huge potential in biomedical applications such as opening clogged hard-to-reach arteries, targeted drug delivery and diagnostic operations. Typically, a micro swimmer that consists of a magnetic bead as its body, which is attached to a rigid helical tail, is actuated by a rotating external magnetic field and moved
forward in the direction of the rotation in fluids. Understanding of hydrodynamic effects has utmost importance for modeling and prediction of the trajectory of the robot. In this work, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is presented for the mm-long swimmer with the helical tail; the swimmer is used in our previous experiments on the effect of the confinement of the
robot in a liquid filled channel. Forward velocity, fluid forces and torques on the micro swimmer are studied with respect to robot’s radial position in the channel and the number of waves on the helical tail. Forward velocities from the CFD model for the robots swimming near the wall agree reasonably well with
experimental measurements
Oral health-related quality of life of preschool-aged Turkish children with congenital heart disease
Background. Dental caries and poor oral hygiene can affect the quality of life (QoL) of patients with con -genital heart disease (CHD). Information about the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of Turkish preschool children with CHD is scarce.Objectives. The aim of the present study was to assess the OHRQoL, and the presence of caries, plaque and gingivitis in Turkish preschool children with CHD as compared to children without CHD (control group).Material and methods. Children aged 3-6 years with CHD (n = 75) and a control group (n = 75) were included in the study. Examinations were conducted using the plaque index (PI), the gingival index (GI) and the World Health Organization (WHO) caries diagnostic criteria. The Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) questionnaire was completed by the children's families.Results.The amount of caries and plaque, as well as the number of missing teeth were higher in children with CHD. The OHRQoL was lower in children with CHD. However, the differences between the 2 groups were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). The number of filled teeth was significantly higher in the con-trol group (p < 0.05).Conclusions. According to the findings of the present study, the high amount of caries and plaque in both groups demonstrates that caries continues to be a major public health problem. Although there was no significant difference in terms of QoL scale scores between the 2 groups, the study showed that OHRQoL was lower in children with CHD
