Hallervorden spatz disease – a rare clinicoradiological diagnosis
Hallervorden Spatz disease, also known as pantothenate kinase associated neuro-degeneration, is a rare, progressive neurological disorder usually seen in first decade of life. It is associated with extrapyramidal effects, dysarthria and dementia. Hallervorden Spatz Disease is also associated with psychiatric symptoms, depression and behavioral changes. Affected patients are disabled predominantly by dystonia. MRI, in later stage of the disease, shows “eye of the tiger’ appearance which is fairly diagnostic of Hallervorden Spatz Disease. Response to drugs is often poor and of limited value to these patients. This report highlights a classical case of Hallervorden Spatz disease that presented as an outpatient with dystonia and psychotic symptoms and was diagnosed on the basis of clinical and radiological evidence
Corrosion inhibition mechanism of Piperacillin Sodium for mild steel protection in acidic media
The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1M HCl solution by Piperacillin Sodium was studied by weight loss measurement and electrochemical techniques i.e. Polarization Resistance, Potentiodynamic Polarization and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The results obtainedat 30ºC divulged that this pharmaceutical compound had established 93% inhibition efficiency at an optimum concentration of 7.2×10-4 M. These outcomes show that inhibition takes place by adsorption of the inhibitor on metal surface without altering the mechanism of corrosion process. The adsorption of Piperacillin Sodium takes place according to Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Potentiodynamic polarization studies indicate that Piperacillin Sodium acts as a mixed type of inhibitor. Data collectedfrom EIS studies has been analyzed to model the appropriate equivalent circuit for better explanation of corrosion inhibition process. A Bibliometric Analysis of the Top 100 Cited Articles on Hepatic Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
The purpose of this study is to guide the readers to the impact of the articles published on hepatic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We searched Scopus using 10 different search terms for hepatic MRI. The selected studies were thoroughly reviewed by two independent authors and any disagreement was sorted out by mutual consensus. The list of articles and journals was downloaded into an excel spreadsheet. Only the top 100 cited articles were selected by mutual consensus among all the authors. These articles were further read in the full-text form and were further categorized into subgroups. Three authors independently reviewed the top 100 selected articles, and subsequently data was extracted from them and analyzed. Our study showed that the highest number of top 100 cited articles on hepatic MRI were from Radiology (30 articles) followed by European Radiology (14 articles). The American Journal of Roentgenology, Radiographics, and Journal of Magnetic Resonance had seven articles each. The United States had the highest number of articles by region. Nineteen other journals contributed only one article each to the list of top 100 cited articles. The contribution of authors to the top 100 cited articles was reviewed; all the authors contributing with more than two articles to the highly cited articles are given in Table 3 in the supplementary material. The maximum number of articles were published during 2009 (14 articles), and for a five-year period, the maximum contribution was made during 2008-2013 (44 articles). Our analysis gives an insight on the frequency of citations of top articles on hepatic MRI, categorizes the subtopics, the timeline of the publications, and contributions from different geographic distributions
SPATA: Strong Pseudonym based AuthenTicAtion in Intelligent Transport System
Intelligent Transport System (ITS) is generally deployed to improve road safety, comfort, security, and traffic efficiency. A robust mechanism of authentication and secure communication is required to protect privacy and conditional resolution of pseudonyms to revoke malicious vehicles. In a typical ITS framework, a station can be a vehicle, Road Side Unit (RSU), or a server that can participate in communication. During authentication, the real identity of an Intelligent Transport System-Station (ITSS), referred to as a vehiclečň should not be revealed in order to preserve its privacy. In this paper, we propose a Strong Pseudonym based AutenTicAtion (SPATA) framework for preserving the real identity of vehicles. The distributed architecture of SPATA allows vehicles to generate pseudonyms in a very private and secure way. In the absence of a distributed architecture, the privacy cannot be preserved by storing information regarding vehicles in a single location. Therefore, the concept of linkability of certificates based on single authority is eliminated. This is done by keeping the real identity to pseudonym mappings distributed. Furthermore, the size of the Certificate Revocation List (CRL) is kept small, as only the most recent revoked communication pseudonyms are kept in the CRL. The privacy of the vehicle is preserved during the revocation and resolution phase through the distributed mechanism. Empirical results show that SPATA is a lightweight framework with low computational overhead, average latency, overhead ratio, and stable delivery ratio, in both sparse and dense network scenarios
Intubation in emergency department of a tertiary care hospital in a low-income
Objective: To study the indications, method, success rate and complications of intubation at the Emergency Department of a private, tertiary care hospital in Karachi, Pakistan.Methods: The case series involved 278 patients above 14 years of age who underwent emergency intubation at the Emergency Department of Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi between 1998 and 2003. Descriptive statistics were used to compare rapid sequence intubation with crash intubation. The level of significance was p\u3c0.05.Results: Of the total 278 intubations performed, 37 (13.3%) had to be left out for incomplete information. The study population remaining for inferential analysis comprised of 241 patients. Of the total 278 patients, 174 (63%) were males. Rapid sequence intubation was the commonest type (n=185, 67%) of intubation and was performed mostly by anaesthetists (n=236, 85%). Cardiogenic pulmonary oedema and head injury were commonly seen in these patients. The success on first attempt of intubation was 98% (n=181) in rapid sequence intubation, and 85% (n=48) in crash intubation. Overall, 15 (5.3%) complications were seen in these intubations.Conclusion: Study showed a satisfactory success rate in both rapid sequence and crash intubations
Postpartum Care Utilization among Primigravida: A Study in Rural Punjab, Pakistan
The present paper examined some of the socio-economic factors associated with postpartum care utilization among primigravida (first time mothers) in rural Punjab, Pakistan. Data were collected from 205 primigravida within six weeks following their delivery. Maternal education, husband’s education, husband’s occupation, monthly household income and exposure to mass media turned out to be some of the important factors in postpartum care utilization. Antenatal care, type of delivery and place of delivery were significantly associated with the postpartum care services utilization. The findings of the present study clearly underscored the importance of educational attainments of both the spouses in determining the postpartum care utilization. Glutathione supplementation in semen extender improves rabbit sperm attributes during refrigeration
[EN] In the present study, we evaluated the sustaining effect of various glutathione (GSH) concentrations in extender on rabbit sperm attributes during storage at 5°C for 24 h. Semen was collected from regular donor rabbit bucks using an artificial vagina and initially evaluated for sperm quality. The qualifying ejaculates were diluted with one of the extenders having 0, 1, 2, 4 or 8 mM GSH, to achieve a final concentration of 1×108 sperm/mL. The extended samples were stored at 5°C for 24 h. Sperm motility, motion kinetics, acrosome integrity and viability were assessed after 3, 6, 12 and 24 h of storage. The results showed that total sperm motility and sperm motion kinetics (oscillation index of the sperm, straightness index and beat cross frequency) were influenced (P<0.05) by glutathione dose and refrigeration time. An interaction of (P<0.05) GSH concentrations and refrigeration time was observed for sperm viability and acrosome reaction rate.
