This paper defines social development in the context of sustainable development. To this end, the concept of development and its evolution has been reviewed over the past seven decades. The concept of development has evolved from economic growth to poverty alleviation, sustainable development, human development, and most recently the millennium development goals towards sustainable development goals. A preliminary finding shows that the concept of development has focused more on the economic and environmental aspects in comparison to the social aspect of development. In recent years, however, the concept of sustainable development has begun to emphasis on the social aspect as a fundamental aspect of development. Thereafter, it has gained significant recognition, especially in the World Summit for Social Development in Copenhagen in the late 1990s. However, the definition of social development remains vague and there is no consensus of what perspectives should be adopted in defining social development. Therefore, this paper aims to define and analyse social development from related modern literature on development and argues for the need for a new definition of the social component of sustainable development. Furthermore, the paper adopts meta-analysis and content analysis methods by reviewing and analysing related literature on development from journals, books, conferences, and reports. This study contributes to the existing literature that provides a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of social development and identifies the main propositions of the concept. Besides, the analysis of the existing social component of sustainable development can give insights in developing more comprehensive social development concept in the future

The education system has experienced major change since COVID-19, moving away from traditional learning methods and toward non-traditional solutions. Mobile learning is one of the most innovative methods of education that has emerged as a result of the widespread accessibility of information networks and ongoing technological advancement. This denotes the launch of an unconventional educational platform that makes use of mobile technologies to promote thorough knowledge gain and interactive learning. Students may show resistance to adopting mobile learning despite governmental efforts through its policy and benefits linked with educational technologies in learning. This hesitance is indicated by the conflicting findings present in the existing literature. The question of whether students possess favourable attitudes towards mobile learning remains an ongoing challenge to study. Hence, to illustrate thorough explanations regarding challenges related to the actual usage of mobile learning, the study intends to investigate the influence of perceived trust, perceived usefulness, perceived usability, perceived facilities, and perceived social influence of mobile learning. The study adopts these five (5) independent variables to test the dependent variable namely the actual use of mobile learning and treatment of the behaviour intention derived from the aforementioned five (5) independent variables. To fully illustrate, the study proposes a comprehensive framework for implementing mobile learning in public universities. The findings of the research offer practical advice on how to evaluate and improve the quality of mobile learning platforms and comprehend diverse factors for the effective use of mobile learning platforms

The concept of development has evolved over the past two centuries. The main idea of economic development expanded from economic growth to poverty alleviation, sustainable development, human development, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Preliminary findings show that these concepts are mainly focused on the physical and material development, ignoring social development which is very fundamental to development. In recent years, the literatures have begun to emphasise that social development is an important dimension of development and its importance was confirmed globally after introducing SDGs. However, the findings in these works remain inconsistent to what constitutes social development, they lack consensus and clear definition of social development, they focus on the physical dimension of social development and, they emphasise on the physical dimension of social development frameworks. This study aims critically to examine the shortcomings and limitations of existing social development, along with its features, definitions and dimensions. The study also attempts to identify the shortcomings of social development frameworks, and to recommend the direction towards developing social development framework which will be more comprehensive in nature. The paper employs meta-analysis and content analysis methods through the review and analysis of related literature on development, especially social development

The used materials are casted-off or not consumed and they are usually disposed of. In the Department of Industrial Design, most of the used materials will be collected and then sent to the disposal center. Among the main materials used by the students are the acrylic wood. In order to avoid them from being disposed, it is good to take the approach by collecting all the used materials to be transformed as a trophy for UiTM's internal activities and programs as well as external bookings. This can generate the income of student clubs and students who assist in the work of creating the designs and trophies. The price is based on the design and complexity of the trophy. The trophy is a pioneer project for the use of the used material and will be continued by producing other products under the brand name club for income generating purposes through design using the used materials. Acrylic is also the major component in the production of Industrial Design students and most of the surplus will be disposed-off and wasted. The used woods are then produced as a result of excess student projects reapply to create trophies or souvenirs that can be resold in order to generate student club income

The board of directors and shariah committee characteristics play a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness of takaful firms in term of financial performance. This paper aims to provide a systematic review of characteristics related to board and shariah committee members that can enhance the financial performance of Tafakul firms. In addition, the paper also identifies the various measurement tools used by prior studies in measuring financial performance. This paper adopted Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and utilised two main journal databases: Scopus and Web of Science, to identify and select the articles to be analysed. Six articles have been identified and analysed systematically. As a result, the review was able to develop two main themes that are the board of directors and the shariah committee. Then, the examination of both themes contributed to the key characteristics, namely, size, non-executive directors, separation of Chairman and CEO role and Muslim member. The paper summarises the critical characteristics that significantly influence Tafakul firms' performance and describes that the empirical evidence does not provide a clear direction of the relationship. The unclear results might be due to the different cultures of the studies being conducted and included in this review. Furthermore, the method/tool used to measure Tafakul firm's financial performance in the selected articles is also different and unstandardised. As consequences, mixed and unclear results of the relationship between the characteristics of the board and shariah committee with financial performance are produced. Thus this offers some practical implications and lines for further research

    Long-Distance Signal Propagation in AC-LGAD

We investigate the signal propagation in AC-LGAD (aka RSD), which are LGAD with a common N+ layer and segmented AC-coupled readout contacts, by measuring response to IR laser TCT on a large selection of AC-LGAD with strip readout. The interest for this topic derives from the realization that while large charge sharing between neighboring strips is essential for good position resolution, large sharing beyond the next neighbor generates background signals which in general are detrimental to the sensor goal of low occupancy. Using AC-LGAD with strip readout produced by Hamamatsu Photonics (HPK), we evaluate the effects of a variety of sensor properties, including geometrical parameters (strip length, width), process parameters like the N+ layer resistivity, the coupling capacitance, and the thickness of the bulk on the signal sharing and the position resolution.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, 13th Hiroshima Symposium HSTD1

We created The Sponge-B.O.B and decided to turn it into a social enterprise. Due to its numerous significant features that make it incredibly adaptable for purposes, rubber sponge items are extensively employed in a number of current applications. Rubber sponge cleansers are designed for heavy-duty dishwashing and cleaning thick, extra-dirty dishware, as well as sinks and countertops. The rubber sponge is well-known for dishwashing. It features a gritty texture that resembles that of a traditional, more abrasive sponge. The rubber is meant to be gentle on dish surfaces, making it easy to clean and odor-free. The Sponge-B.O. B" stands for the world's "Best of the Best (B.O.B)" sponges. We don't only cater to housewives; anyone can use it to wash their automobiles because it's so user-friendly and versatile. We use the common concept of making sponges as our product to make one's job simpler. Because it is unique, this sponge has its own set of advantages and functions. One of the advantages is that misuse of soap does not result in dry hands since our sponge contains a 100% rubber compartment for soap containers. Furthermore, because this sponge comes with its own soap compartment, we may save money by not having to purchase another container. Because of this function, the user does not have to do as much work and may save time by not having to transfer soap to other containers, which can make their cleaning area dirtier. Unlike traditional sponges, which are only composed of polyester, our sponge is constructed of rubber, which is anti-slip and has great elasticity, allowing us to use it for longer period of time. This is in contrast to traditional sponges, which require regular replacement as they become worn

Type 2 diabetes in adolescents and young adults

    Get PDF
The prevalence of type 2 diabetes in adolescents and young adults is dramatically increasing. Similar to older-onset type 2 diabetes, the major predisposing risk factors are obesity, family history, and sedentary lifestyle. Onset of diabetes at a younger age (defined here as up to age 40 years) is associated with longer disease exposure and increased risk for chronic complications. Young-onset type 2 diabetes also affects more individuals of working age, accentuating the adverse societal effects of the disease. Furthermore, evidence is accumulating that young-onset type 2 diabetes has a more aggressive disease phenotype, leading to premature development of complications, with adverse effects on quality of life and unfavourable effects on long-term outcomes, raising the possibility of a future public health catastrophe. In this Review, we describe the epidemiology and existing knowledge regarding pathophysiology, risk factors, complications, and management of type 2 diabetes in adolescents and young adults
