Soil compaction of peat under the influence of electrokinetic stabilization (EKS) treatment
This study aims to enhance the properties of peat such as, (shear strength, compressibility, permeability and liquid limit). Peat is considered as one of the problematic soil in construction projects all over the world, which covers about 4% land of the whole world while 8% of the total area of Malaysia and about (5.86%) of peat soil existing in Johor state. Low shear strength of peat may lead to massive loss of various sectors contributing toward any economic activities such as construction & agriculture projects. There are several issues related to peat stabilization which has become a priority to ensure that soft soil is stable & capable of supporting a load after treated by a suitable soil stabilization method. The problem can be finally reduced by applying stabilization treatment to enhance its properties. One of the known technique Electrokinetic Stabilization treatment, by applying an electric potential to stabilize soft soil. In this method, aluminum was used as an electrode with various voltage potential in the range of 110 to 150 V was applied on both cathode and anode electrode for the duration of 3 and 6 hours at the testing condition without & with a load of (50 kg). Linking urban form to a liveable city
This paper intends to show the contribution and relationship of urban form to a liveable city, as many researchers pose the urban form as one of the factors that can worsen or improve the sustainability of the city. The paper will begin by exploring into the theoretical characteristics of the urban form at the macro and micro scale. Urban form models that match the Malaysian cities’ urban form are illustrated in this paper with the idea of giving a larger context of the living ecology for Malaysian communities. There are two types of cities, one that grows in an ad-hoc manner, and the other is being shaped by planners. This paper however, focuses only on a planned city that is the core city for Shah Alam. Consequently, this paper touches briefly on the liveable city concept which is currently being debated among the researchers as a more practical way of looking into the sustainable city issues. Generation of pulsed dual wavelength erbium doped fiber laser
Single and dual wavelength fiber lasers and pulsed fiber lasers are well-known to be used for various applications. In the generation of dual wavelength fiber lasers and pulsed fiber lasers, the researchers found the mode competition among the dual wavelength is caused by the cross-gain saturation and strong homogeneous line broadening faced by erbium doped fiber (EDF). Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to generate a single and dual wavelength fiber laser and pulsed fiber laser by using fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in single ring and Figure-8 configurations at 1550 nm and 1560 nm. Analysis and optimization on single wavelength fiber laser and single wavelength pulsed fiber laser give a peak power of -10.70 dBm (8.51x10-2 mW) and -54.01 dBm (3.97x10-6 mW) with signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 59.70 dB and 10.29 dB, respectively, at 1550 nm. Similarly, at 1560 nm, this gives a peak power of -13.60 dBm (4.37x10-2 mW) and -60.00 dBm (1.00x10-6 mW) with SNR of 57.60 dB and 8.78 dB, respectively. For dual wavelength fiber laser and dual wavelength pulsed fiber laser, this gives a peak power of -12.90 dBm (5.13x10-2 mW) and -54.03 dBm (3.95x10-6 mW) at 1550 nm and a peak power of -14.80 dBm (3.24x10-2 mW) and -57.99 dBm (1.59x10-6 mW) at 1560 nm, respectively. The SNR obtained for 1550 nm and 1560 nm for dual wavelength fiber laser and dual wavelength pulsed fiber laser are 55.38 dB and 11.16 dB and 53.58 dB and 11.27 dB, respectively. The repetition rate of single and dual wavelength pulsed fiber laser is 2.878 MHz. It can be concluded that single and dual wavelength fiber lasers are successfully generated using single ring and figure-8 configurations whereas single and dual wavelength pulsed fiber laser are generated using only Figure-8 configuration due to mode locking occurrence. The polarization inside the cavity is controlled to solve mode competition and homogeneous in EDF, in order to obtain a stable dual wavelength
Trends of Radicalization among the Ranks of the Afghan National Police
This study examines and compares trends of radicalization among the ranks of Afghan National Police (ANP) force across eleven provinces in Afghanistan. This is the first part of an ongoing series of papers dedicated to examining the evolving trends in radicalization among the Afghan National Defense and Security Force (ANDSF). Since the formation of the defense and security in 2002, various potential manifestations of radicalization, including insider attacks, dereliction of duty, and desertion have plagued its ranks. Radicalization is broadly defined as constraints on both the perspective of individuals and their tolerance to ideology and practices which diverge and differentiate from their own political, religious and social beliefs. Making the distinction between political deviance (PD), religious extremism (RE), and social intolerance (SI), 1498 uniformed rank and file personnel, 151 commissioned officers, and 8 uniformed religious leaders from among the ANP were surveyed on their views toward the political system in Afghanistan, anti-government elements including the Taliban, democracy in light of Islamic values, and women and human rights
Failure Analysis of Ethylene Cracking Heater, ET-O-F-105 Tube
The study is to analyze failure of an ethylene cracking heater’s tube, from Ethylene (M) Sdn Bhd. The objectives of the research are to conduct relevant tests and experiments, analyze data obtained and suggest recommendations to avoid similar incident in the future. Visual Inspection revealed cracks and deformation on the tube. Inner surface of the tube experienced more failure compared to outer surface of the tube. It can be concluded that the failure was originated from the inner side of the tube. Non-Destructive Testing revealed the only three cracks detected. However, from the visual inspection, cracks can be detected. It can be concluded that, the failure was originated from the inner side and penetrated to the outer surface at some point where the failure is most severe. From Hardness Testing, at inner surface of the tube, where carburization was most severe, the average hardness was found to be higher than the middle section of the tube. Carburization is expected to the factor of this hardening. From Microscopy Examination, precipitates of small blocky type are found in the austenitic grains. Comparison between Microscopy Examination image with higher magnification and uncarburized Nickel-Chromium image revealed that high degree of carbide precipitation at the grain boundaries and blocky carbide particles in the matrix compared to the uncarburized Nickel-Chromium alloy. Chemical Analysis proved Carbon’s involvement at the surface of the tube. Fractography showed intergranular fracture of the tube. It can be concluded that the mode of failure of the radiant furnace tube was a combination of creep damage and carburization attack. Experimental data shows that the furnace tube had undergone carburization due to exposure to excessively high temperature and carbide formation from the reaction of carbon during service. To avoid similar incident in the future, it is recommended for Ethylene (M) Sdn Bhd to review all operating parameters of the furnace. As a long-term recommendation, it is also recommended for Ethylene (M) Sdn Bhd to replace Nickel-Chromium alloy with an Al2O3-forming alloys. It is recommended to further study the furnace system and analyze samples from other furnace units

Height Accuracy of Radargrammetric Generated Digital Elevation Model
The stereoscopic concept used in photogrammetry was successfully extended to the
optical sensor of SPOT (System Probatoire d'Observation de la Terre) to generate the
digital elevation model (DEM) and to extract the planimetric features. Following this
success, scientists are impressively encouraged to explore the feasibility of using
stereoscopy on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, applying the radargrammetric
technique. In the regions where cloud cover or darkness prevails, active microwave
remote sensing data such as SAR can be fully utilized to procure information about land
surface and forest canopy.
The objective of this study is to analyze the accuracy of the elevations extracted from the
DEM generated using the radargrammetric technique as compared with the elevations
generated from the photogrammetric technique. The capability of the radargrammetric
technique and its potential in extracting the altimetric information were subsequently
assessed. The stereo RADARSAT images of Klang Valley with coverage of 100 Ian by 100 Ian
were acquired. A total of 199 Ground Control Points (GCPs) were selected on relatively
low terrains as backscattering radar data is very sensitive to the slope and high terrains.
The primary input data was the coordinates of GCPs which were extracted from the
topographical maps. When the errors produced in the GCP collection report were
acceptable, the next process was creating epipolar images and generating DEM. It was
then followed by generating the geocoded DEM

Analisis Isi Pesan Dakwah Rubrik Mimbar Jum’at Edisi Juli-Desember 2013 Di Harian Kalteng Pos
Di era globalisasi informasi saat ini, media massa dapat digunakan sebagai salah satu alternatif dalam penyampaian pesan-pesan dakwah. Dalam hal ini, surat kabar harian Kalteng Pos merupakan salah satu surat kabar yang ada di Kalimantan Tengah yang secara konsisten menyampaikan pesan dakwah melalui rubrik mimbar jum’at. Kalteng Pos selalu mendorong tumbuhnya institusi pers dan demokrasi yang meletakkan asas keterbukaan dan melepaskan sekat-sekat golongan, ras, agama, ataupun kelompok sosial.
Rumusan masalah pada penelitian ini adalah apa saja isi pesan dakwah pada rubrik mimbar jum’at edisi Juli-Desember 2013 di harian Kalteng Pos.?
Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis isi (content analisys)kuantitatif untuk mengetahui gambaran mengenai isi pesan dakwah dalam rubrik mimbar jum’at edis Juli-Desember 2013 di harian Kalteng Pos dengan memfokuskan penelitian pada rubrik mimbar jum’at. Pada penelitian ini, subjek penelitiannya adalah rubrik mimbar jum’at surat kabar yang ada diharian Kalteng Pos. Sedangkan objek penelitiannya adalah materi pesan-pesan dakwah yang disampaikan dalam rubrik mimbar jum’at edisi Juli-Desember 2013.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa isi pesan dakwah dalam rubrik mimbar jum’at di harian Kalteng Pos memuat ketiga kategori pesan dakwah yakni akidah, syari’ah maupun akhlak. Dalam pesan akidah terdapat 9 item, pesan syari’ah terdapat 10 item, dan pesan akhlak terdapat 7 item. Dilihat dari hasil prosentase dan frekuensi kemunculannya, pesan syari’ah sedikit lebih dominan dibanding pesan akidah dan akhlak. Pesan syari’ah mendapat prosentase sebesar 38,46 %, akidah 34,62 % dan akhlak mendapat prosentase 26,92%. Hal ini juga dapat disimpulkan, bahwa materi dakwah dalam bidang syari’ah sedikit lebih dominan dibanding dengan akidah dan akhlak. Tema yang di angkat artikel dalam rubrik mimbar jum’at edisi Juli-Desember 2013, Kalteng Pos itu sendiri memberikan para jurnalis muslim mengisi rubrik mimbar jum’at sesuai dengan momentum, bulan Juli dan agustus bertepatan tentang ibadah seperti puasa, dan lain-lain.
