    This study focuses on the types of speech errors by the second semester of non-English Education Department students in the English Tutorial Program (ETP) under the Teacher Training and Education Faculty and the Speaking teaching techniques used by tutors. The purpose of this study is to find out the types of speech errors committed by students and discover the techniques used by tutors to teach speaking. The subjects of this study were 30 second semester students and 10 ETP tutors from the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. the researcher used Speech Error theory from Clark and Clark (1977) and Speaking teaching techniques from Prayit (2014), Natalieczaban (2019) dan Harmer (2005). Data obtained by the method of observation, document analysis and interviews. The results showed the types of errors are silent pause, filled pause, repeats, retraced, interjections, and stutters and the techniques used by tutors are multiply vocabulary, reading with loud voices, grammar, conversations, feedback, role plays, build confidence, games and discussion

    Employing Corrective Feedback Technique to Improve Students' Writing: Forms And Benefits

    This study aims to 1) knowing and explaining the forms of corrective feedback are used by teachers in teaching writing at SMP Negeri 4 Mojosongo, and 2) knowing and explaining benefits of using corrective feedback are taken by teachers in teaching writing at SMP Negeri 4 Mojosongo. This research is a qualitative descriptive research, which tries to describe in detail and in depth the conditions encountered at the time the research is carried out, and is a qualitative research because it describes the conditions, situations and social phenomena that occur in the object of study. This study uses descriptive qualitative to describe the implementation of scientific writing learning at SMP Negeri 4 Mojosongo through the provision of corrective feddback from teachers. The results of the study explained that, 1) teachers most often provide explicit corrective feedback, include metalinguistics, elicitation, and indirect corrective feedback to facilitate learning to write scientific papers, 2) the reasons behind giving direct corrective feedback are the level of spelling errors, the use of non-standard words, and the use of inappropriate conjunctions, providing justification information directly from the teacher, as well as perfecting corrections for writing lessons, and 3) the impact of providing direct corrective feedback, among others, is that students immediately know where their mistakes are as well as justifications, justifications make corrections more focused, and avoid further mistakes

    This research aims at identifying what is the motivational contribution of students boarding school especially second grade in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Pemalang in learning English and identifying the strategies done by the teacher in learning teaching English in second-grade religious class boarding school in MAN Pemalang. The researcher raised this topic because the researcher was curious to describe the motivation of boarding school students in MAN Pemalang, which is the only public school in Pemalang that implements boarding school. The object of this study is to investigate students' motivations in learning English. The subjects of this study were second-grade students of Darul Ashfiya boarding school MAN Pemalang, and also three English teachers who taught boarding school students in the second grade in religion class. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The method used in collecting data was to use interviews, and then the technique in validity data is the member checking technique. The results of the study showed that the factors of students who contributed to learning English at the MAN Pemalang boarding school were person’s personality, learner's attitudes, the role of the teacher, learning techniques, and the relation between languages. many strategies that teachers did contribute to students' motivation in teaching learning English are creating active learning, teachers encourage self- motivation to students also providing positive feedback to the student

    Inquiry Based Learning With Digital Module In Teaching Reading At Smp Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo

    This research has purpose to (1) describe the implementation of Inquiry Based Learning technique with digital module in teaching reading at SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo and to (2) identify the difficulties faced in teaching reading using Inquiry Based Learning technique with digital module at SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo. In this research, the researcher applies descriptive qualitative research method. It was conducted at SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo and the subject of this research were the English teacher of the eighth grade at SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo who teach reading using inquiry based learning with digital module and the students of the eighth grade. The data in this research were gathered using two technique of data collection, by using direct interview to the participants and document analysis. The findings showed that (1) there are five steps in the implementation of inquiry based learning in teaching reading. The five steps follows the principle of Inquiry-Based Learning (Science by Doing Program)

    An Error Analysis On Students’ Writing Of Descriptive Text At Smk Negeri 1 Pedan, Klaten

    This study aims to determine the types of errors and causes of errors made by 10th grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Pedan in writing descriptive texts. This type of research is descriptive qualitative using the error analysis method. The subjects of this study were 30 students and two teachers. The data of this study comprise document taken from 30 students’ worksheet and interview transcript collected from the interview with 12 students as the student representatives and two teachers. Further, in collecting the data this study used document review and interview techniques. The data were then analyzed using steps referring to the theory by Miles and Huberma (1994). The results of this study indicate that there were several errors that occured namely 1) spelling error (33.7%) 2) punctuation error (19.1%) 3) grammar error (24.7%) 4) usage error (23.5%). It means that dominant type of errors in this research is spelling error. The causes of error embrace 1) interlingual transfer 2) intralingual transfer 3) context of learning. Furthermore, this study also shows the reasons why students made these errrors which include students’ lack of thorough, students’ lack of English vocabulary; students’ lack of understanding about the material. The errors and the causes of error made by students in writing descriptive texts highlight the problems that students face in exploring their writing skills as well as the possible improvement that can be done to solve them. Even though they experience some difficulties, students are still trying to do the assignment given and have enthusiasm when describing the character as seen from the results

    Using Instagram In Learning Narrative Text For The Eleventh Grade Students At SMA Batik 1 Surakarta

    This research has purposes to (1) describe the implementation of social media Instagram in learning narrative writing for the eleventh grade students of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta, (2) identify the difficulties of using Instagram in learning narrative writing for the eleventh grade students of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta, and (3) identify the solutions for the difficulties of using Instagram in learning narrative writing for the eleventh grade students of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta. In conducting this research, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative study. This research was conducted at SMA Batik Surakarta, using the English teacher and students of the eleventh grade as the subject or informants in this research. The data in this research were in the form of interview results and some documents, while the sources of the data were the English teacher and students. In collecting the data in this research, the researcher applied interview and document analysis. The findings of this research was divided into three, (1) the findings on the implementation of teaching and learning writing using Instagram showed that it consists the of several processes and each process give a clear information on the use of Instagram for the teaching and learning of writing. The process includes 1) Presenting materials and giving project focus on writing skill, 2) Asking the students to perform the assignment, and 3) Assessment aspect in the use of Instagram assignment. (2) The findings on the difficulties showed that that the difficulties are divided into two factors, the internal factors and the external factors. The internal factors were about the students’ quality of writing, the violation of the privacy of Instagram user, and the students’ discipline. Meanwhile, the external factors include the internet connection and access and the use of time. (3) The findings on the solutions for the difficulties of using Instagram in learning narrative writing showed that the English teacher has several advices for solving the problems appear, such as to use good provider to get good internet connection or access, to make a note on the idea for writing and arranging writing step by step to be able to submit assignment on time, to provide consultation for the students and help them with some vocabularies in order that students can have better writing, to suggest the students to maintain the Instagram account well and filter the information to be shared in order that to avoid violation of privacy in the user, and the last is to give rewards and punishment or consequences for dealing with the discipline of students
