Initially, Indonesian museums were run as object-oriented museums. Recently there has been a paradigm change that encourages museums to move to public-oriented museums. Generally, museums are founded with the main aim to preserve cultural heritage which includes protection, development, and utilization. Museums have also other functions as preservation institution and source of information. As preservation institution, museum activities include aspects of managing storage system, maintenance, and security. Meanwhile, as source of information, museums carry out research and presentation of information. Collection is the core of museum. Here museum collection is defined as natural or cultural object which are stored and used as source of information to be presented in the museum. One of general problems faced by museum is that not all of the collection having good supporting data. In addition, not all museum collections are able to be presented properly to the public. Therefore, a museum should have a clearly planned collection management which includes physical maintenance, administrative recording, and managing collection flow. Beside, research should be conducted to find information behind the collection. then communicated to the public. Collection management includes the activity of procurement, administration, conservation, storage, research and communicating the collection to be used by the people. The problem raised in this research is related to the collection management of Benteng Vredeburg Museum in the effort to improve service to the public. All the effort are carried out to accomplish the function of museum as preservation institution and source of information. So far the museum service is considered as not satisfactory. This is due to the limited understanding among the museum staffs and public in general on the real function of the museum. Therefore, the museum should improve itself, so that the role of the museum as preservation institution and information sources can be achieved. The museum improvement should not only be conducted in many aspects of the collection management but also in the presentation of the museum collection as part of museum communication to public. This research offers some consideration on collection management system and efforts that should be done to make Benteng Vredeburg Museum to be more public-oriented. Museum collection should be managed administratively, have complete data, be accessible easily and be useful for people. Through these efforts the role of the museum as cultural preservation institution and information sources can be realized

EVALUASI KONSERVASI KOLEKSI MUSEUM PT.TWC PRAMBANAN

This research is aimed to evaluate the collection management conservation of PT.TWC Prambanan museum. This evaluation is to know the collection condition and collection management that applied now. Based on the survey, it is known that Prambanan Museum was managed by the simple management and there is no conservation management of the collection inside. Therefore, through this research is expected to make plan about management conservation for the collection of Prambanan Museum in particular and other museum in general. This research was conducted by applying inductive methode based on primary data and secondary data analysis. The data are assesment from observation, interviews and library research, both written and electronic media. These data are used to support the analysis process. The result of analysis that was made will be used to determine the collection management conservation problems and make of the suitability recommendations for Museum Prambanan collections. The results of the research shows that the collection at the Prambanan Museum are generally in fair condition for the majority, because the collection are stable material such as stone and ceramic. But for such a collection of metal and �daun lontar� are poor condition, because deteriorated that influence by climatology fluctuation and the other environmental component that are not suitable. It can be fixed by making a good management conservation for collection at the Prambanan Museum and improving the human resources and procedures that support all activities at the museum

research, education, and recreation. In the implementation of this, museum designs museum programs. One of the programs is museum for public program. Museum public program is a program held by the museum in order to increase the involvement of the community towards the museum. Besides, this program aims to increase the society�s understanding towards museum, invite new visitors and re-invite the visitors to come again in the next chance. It is important to look for a suitable public program development for the museum. In 2006 until 2012 Museum Benteng Vredeburg Yogyakarta has develop a lot of public program in order to increase the involvement of the society. However, how far it reaches its goal as well as the vision and mission of the museum needs to be evaluated. The result of the evaluation from public program held by Museum Benteng Vredeburg Yogyakarta shows that improvement is needed to increase the involvement of the society. The expected impact of the public program held has not achieved. The position of public program to endorse the vision and mission of the museum needs to be increased. This research aims to find suitable strategy in order developing public program of Museum Benteng Vredeburg Yogyakarta. The analysis used this research is SWOT analysis. Considering the present of new paradigm in museum field, which is Paradigm Participation, this research aims to give strategy in developing public program that involve the society and increase the achievement of the museum vision and mission in the future

KAJIAN EFEKTIVITAS TEKNIK DAN BAHAN KONSERVASI PADA LONTAR DI BALI

Palm leaf manuscript is cultural heritage which can easily deteriorate. Various ways of conservation have been carried out in museums and people in Bali, such as by spreading the palm leaf manuscripts with clove oil, citronella oil, candle nut oil, sesame oil, mixture of glycerin and ethanol, and mixture of aceton and citronella oil. This research applied experimental method, compares the effectiveness of variety substance to conserve palm leaf manuscript against deterioration factors, such as high temperature, high humidity, fluctuation temperature, insect attack, and light radiation. The experiment tried out 44 varieties of substance. Specifically this research has found that to prevent several deterioration factor together, i.e. high temperature, fungi, high fluctuation temperature, and insect attack. The effective substances are: (1) Clove oil (2) Mixture of glycerin and ethanol (3) Mixture of clove oil, glycerin, and ethanol The composition to mixture two or more conservation substance is 1:1 (equivalent). That conservation substance is effective to protect palm leaf for a month. After a month the conservation has to be repeated. The use of candle nut oil which commonly used among people in Bali is not recommended as conservation substance, because this oil contributes to the increase of fungi on the palm leaf and can change color on the palm leaf
