Efl Learnersâ Comprehension Of English Taboo Words In Internet Meme
This study was descriptive qualitative study concerning with taboo words. The objects of this studywere to identify type of taboo words in internet meme and measure the studentsâ comprehension of taboo words in internet meme.The data for this study is internet meme taken from some internet source, such as twitter, facebook, instagram, pinterest, path, and tumblr, and the EFL learnersâ respons about taboo words in internet meme.The technique of collecting which used by the researcher is documentary method. Data were analyzed based on Batistella taxonomy. The result of this study showed that all the types of taboo words based on the taxonomy of Batistella were appeared in internet meme, such as profanity, obscenity, vulgarity, and epithet. The most dominant type of taboo words is epithet and least frequent of taboo language is profanity. The second finding of this study was most of EFL learners had almost no experienced in taboo language
Presupposition As Found In Wonder Woman Movie: A Pragmatics Analysis
This research aims to identify the types of presuppositions and describe the meanings of presuppositions found in the Wonder Woman movie. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. The data are examined in the form of words, sentences or utterances in English that contain types of presuppositions in the Wonder Woman movie script. The techniques of data collection used are observation and documentation. From the results of the data analysis, the writer found 118 data of presuppositions in the Wonder Woman movie. Based on Yule's theory (1996), the writer found 6 types of presuppositions, namely 55 (46.6%) data of existential presuppositions, 31 (26.3%) data of factive presuppositions, 11 (9.3%) data of lexical presuppositions, 17 (14.4%) data of structural presuppositions, 2 (1.7%) data of non-factive presuppositions, and 2 (1.7%) data of counterfactual presuppositions
Impoliteness Strategies in Straight Outta Compton Movie
This study investigates (1) the types of impoliteness strategies found in Straight Outta Compton movie and (2) the charactersâ intention of using those types of impoliteness strategies. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative method in which the data are collected through documentation. The writer used the theory of Culpeper impoliteness strategies (1996) to analyze the impoliteness strategies and the theory of illocutionary acts by Searle (1979) and Norrick (1978) to analyze the speakerâs intention. The result shows that there are 136 impoliteness strategies used by the characters. In detail, positive impoliteness strategy is in the total number of 103 (76%), negative impoliteness strategy has 22 cases (16%), bald-on record impoliteness strategy is in the total number of 9 cases (7%) and the least total number is sarcasm or mock politeness 2 cases (1%). The writer also finds the charactersâ intentions of using those impoliteness strategies, as follow: convincing, reporting, ordering, questioning, threatening, anger, like, dislike, sadness, boasting, praising, surprised, and blaming
A Comparative Study of Criticism Strategies Used by Indonesian and Thai Learners of English
This research focused on criticism strategies used by Indonesian and Thai learners of English. The aims of this research are (1) to determine the criticism strategies used by Indonesian learners of English (2) to determine the criticism strategies used by Thai learners of English (3) to describe the similarities and differences of criticism strategies between Indonesian and Thai learners of English. The subject of this research were 25 Indonesian learners of English who studied at UMS and 25 Thai learners of English who studied at Fatony University. The type of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The data of this research was Discourse Completion Task (DCT) which consisted of four situations with different status level. The data were analyzed by Nguyen (2003) criticism strategies. The findings showed that Indonesian and Thai learners of English tended to use indirect criticism as their way to criticize person. The differences of criticism that was used by Thai learners of English are Indonesian learners of English used more combination strategies than Thai learners of English.Indonesian learners more polite than Thai learners of English. Thai learners of English used more direct criticism than Indonesian learners of English, although the dominant strategies is indirect criticism
The Use Of Swear Words In Deadpool Movie: A Sociopragmatic Study
This research was descriptive qualitative study concerning with swear words. The data of this research were the utterance contain swear words in Deadpool movie script. The writers found five types of swear words in Deadpool movie, those are sex term, body part term, excretion term, death term, and animal term. The findings show that sex term was the dominant type because this type was mostly used by the characters in Deadpool movie.
The writer also classify the category of swear words based on the context of the conversation and monologue found in Deadpool movie. The findings of this research show that there were seven categories of swear words used by the characters in Deadpool movie, such as intensifier category, exclamation of annoyance category, an insult category, exclamation of surprised category, rejection category, surprised question category, and the last is intensifier of unconcern category. The intention of using swear words by the characters that found in Deadpool movie showed that the characters in Deadpool movie used swear words not always to swear, but to express their other emotion and feeling in different situation
Preferred Learning Styles Of The Students Of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta
This study aims to describe the preference learning styles of students in teaching learning process at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta. Especially this research has a quantitative approach that can be used in response to relational questions of variables within the research. The instrument used to collect the data was a questionnaire that consisted of, a number of written questions given to the students and English teachers of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta. The data of the research were quantitative data obtained through Likert scale. The researcher administrated the way of collecting data as followed: 1) the researcher distributed the questionnaire to every student and English teacher; 2) the researcher asked them to filling up the questionnaire. The first Research Question uncovers the most preferred learning style of the secondary school in SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta. The data gathered from the studentsâ questionnaire of XI AK (Accountancy), XI AP (Marketing), and XI PM (Offices Administration) focusing on visual learning style, auditory learning style and kinesthetic learning style. We can understand that 30% of XI AK students like to study with Visual learning style, next the higher is a XI AP student who has 33% in study with Visual learning style, and the last is XI PM who has 37% which is the highest percentage. The significance of this research is to contribution the finding will inform the preferred of study in SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta, the result of this study will add to the body of knowledge in English learning in Indonesian context, particularly in teaching learning model. it is so important to know the result that the success of teachers in teaching has a strong relationship toward the studentsâ preferred learning styles; hence the teachersâ suitable model will influences the studentsâ understanding about of learning materials. It also helps teachers to improve the quality of teaching learning process in classroom. The research may inform local publisher decisions related to development of appropriate learning materials for students. The present study can be employed as reference for other prospective studies that are interested in conducting similar topic.

An Analysis of Deixis in âSandyâS Nutty Niecesâ Manuscript on Spongebob Squarepants Movie Season
This study discusses the deixis analysis found in Sandyâs Nutty Nieces Manuscript on Spongebob Squarepants movie season. The researcher's objectives are: 1) to find out the types of deixis in Sandyâs Nutty Nieces Manuscript on Spongebob Squarepants movie season, 2) to describe the meaning of each deixis type found in Sandyâs Nutty Nieces Manuscript on Spongebob Squarepants movie season. In this study, the authors used descriptive qualitative research. The data are utterances that contain the types of deixis found in Sandyâs Nutty Nieces Manuscript on Spongebob Squarepants movie season. The author uses the method of observation and documentation to collect data. Based on the results of data analysis, the authors analyzed 155 utterances containing deixis found in Sandyâs Nutty Nieces Manuscript on Spongebob Squarepants movie season. From this analysis the authors found that: 1) there are three types of deixis found in Sandy's Nutty Nieces Manuscript on Spongebob Squarepants movie season, namely person deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis, the result is 79% deixis person, 16% deixis spatial, 5% temporal deixis. 2) the meaning of each deixis type found in Sandyâs Nutty Nieces Manuscript on Spongebob Squarepants movie season, there are 79% deixis person (first person, second person, and third person), 16% deixis spatial (show the place), 5% temporal deixis (show the time) of each utterance in the manuscript
The Impoliteness Strategies In Press Conference Of Floyd Mayweather And Conor McGregor
This reseach investigated impoliteness strategies in press conference of Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. The questions of this reseach are firstly what kinds of impoliteness strategies used by Floyd Mayweather in press conference? Secondly, what kinds of impoliteness strategies used by McGregor in press conference? Thirdly what impoliteness strategies mostly used by them to do face attack? This reseach used impoliteness strategies from Culpaper (1996). The method of this reseach is descriptive qualitative. The reseach findings are Conor McGregor did positive impoliteness and negative impoliteness. Positive impoliteness consists of taboo words 38 data, call the other names 2 data, exclude the other from an activity 1 data. Conor did 56 impoliteness attacks. In this press conference, Conor did not do bald on record, withhold impoliteness and sarcasm. Floyd Mayweather did positive impoliteness and negative impoliteness in this press conference. Positive impoliteness consists of use taboo words 17 data, exclude the other from an activity 2 data. Negative impoliteness consists of ridicule 5 data. Floyd did 24 impoliteness attacks. In this press conference, Floyd did not do bald on record, sarcasm and withhold impoliteness. The most frequently strategies used by Conor McGregor is positive impoliteness. Conor did use taboo words 38 data. The most frequently strategies used by Floyd Mayweather is positive impoliteness. Floyd did 17 data of use taboo words. In this press conference Floyd did not do sarcasm, bald on record and withhold impoliteness. In this press conference, there are 80 data of impoliteness. Conor did 56 impoliteness attacks and Floyd did 24 impoliteness attacks. Conor did more attack than Floyd.

Speaking is one way of someone to convey an intent or purpose such as making a presentation or speech in public, asking and answering questions, asking for help or just talking with friends or family. But speaking is also a problem of some people who have excessive anxiety and fear of being criticized by others, so some of them choose to silent. This can be said as speaking anxiety. The study aims to identify the types of speaking anxiety, describe the types of speaking anx-iety that often arise, and describe the causes of first semester student from De-partment of English Education at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta in 2018 who experience speaking anxiety. This research was analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The target fom this study were 18 students from Department of English Education of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta in 2018. In this study, the writer used the theory of speaking anxiety classification from Tercan and Kenan (2015) and the theories from Ghufron and Rini (2009) to identify the causes of speaking anxiety. Based on speaking anxiety classification by Tercan and Kenan (2015) there are three types of anxiety, namely trait anxiety, state anxi-ety and situation-speaking anxiety. In this study, the writer found 7 data of trait anxiety, 8 data of state anxiety, and 6 data of situation-specific anxiety. State anx-iety is the dominant anxiety found in first semester students while situation-specific anxiety is the least and trait anxiety is only 5% different from the percent-age of the data. And then for the causes of student speaking anxiety based on the theory of Ghufron and Rini (2009) there are two causes, namely internal and ex-ternal. The writer found 6 internal causes, such as unconfortable, nervous, psyco-logically disturbed, worry for making mistakes, shame, and negative thinking. While for external causes the writer found 3 causes, namely fear of the lecturers, fear of being mocked and laughed, and fear in front of many people. The results showed that the cause of anxiety was dominant coming from the students them-selves.

The Implementation Of Google Classroom In Teaching Reading For Senior High School Students During Covid-19 Outbreak
The research aims to describe the implementation of Google Classroom in teaching Reading Comprehension Course for Senior High School students during Covid-19 outbreak. The research is descriptive qualitative, and the data are collected through observation, interview, and documentation. The findings show that the implementation of Google Classroom in teaching Reading Comprehension for Senior High School students during Covid-19 outbreak appears to be effective. The teachers use several teaching methods such as Reciprocal Teaching, Question Answer Relationship (QARs), and scaffolding method. In using Google Classroom as their learning platform, the teachers encountered some challenges, which include difficulties in explaining the teaching materials through online media, the studentsâ readiness in using the application, limited time for reading text materials, internet connection problem, and other technical problems such as in operating the features in the application itself. Similarly, the students faced problems caused by environmental and technical factors. The research proposes solutions to these problems, they include teachersâ motivational encouragement and positive attitude in utilising Google Classroom, teacher-parent discussion and agreement through Whatsapp Group to prevent non-conducive learning environment, and both teachersâ and studentsâ commitment to have early preparation of online class to solve any technical problems that may arise
