Can the song of songs be described (also) as a form of dark green religion?
Abstract: Bron Taylor defines dark green religion as follows: “…a deep sense of belonging to and connectedness in nature, while perceiving the earth and its living systems to be sacred and interconnected.” It not only emphasises a felt kinship with the rest of life, but it evokes awe, wonderment and humility towards nature that binds to something “greater than oneself.” Does the intimate “oneness” and living in the moment of the two young lovers in the Song also extend to a diminishing of the self and an experience of oneness with a greater, timeless, mysterious reality? In order to determine whether the Song of Songs complies with a form of nature spirituality, the notions of belonging, interconnectedness and sacredness were investigated as they appear in this ancient book of love. It was found that the Song is representative of a form of dark green religion of a non-doctrinaire, immanent kind. It exhibits ubiquitously the notions of belonging and connection (kinship with nature, an interconnectedness and interdependency of the web of life) and the sacredness of the earth and its inhabitants (their intrinsic worth that evokes awe, wonderment and humility). The experience of sensuality, living mindfully in the moment, transforms into a timeless spirituality of connection to “another, mysterious world.
A new species of Reticulitermes Holmgren, 1913 (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) from the southeastern United States
Reticulitermes nelsonae, a new species of subterranean termite (Isoptera, Rhinotermitidae) is described from Sapelo Island, Georgia, United States of America, with specimens also found in North Carolina and Florida. The adult and soldier castes are described and illustrated to distinguish R. nelsonae from the four described Reticulitermes spp. known to occur in the southeastern United States
Characterization of preclones by matrix collections
Preclones are described as the closed classes of the Galois connection
induced by a preservation relation between operations and matrix collections.
The Galois closed classes of matrix collections are also described by explicit
closure conditions.Comment: 11 page
On Using Magnetic and optical methods to determine the size and characteristics of nanoparticles embedded in oxide semiconductors
Films of oxides doped with transition metals are frequently believed to have
magnetic inclusions. Magnetic methods to determine the amount of nanophases and
their magnetic characteristics are described. The amount of the sample that is
paramagnetic may also be measured. Optical methods are described and shown to
be very powerful to determine which defects are also magnetic.Comment: Manuscript of poster to be presented at MMM-Intermag 2010. Accepted

Extremal Transitions in Heterotic String Theory
In this paper we study extremal transitions between heterotic string
compactifications, i.e., transitions between pairs (M,V) where M is a
Calabi-Yau manifold and V a gauge bundle. Bundle transitions are described
using language recently espoused by Friedman, Morgan, Witten. In addition,
partly as a check on our methods, we also study how small instantons are
described in the same language, and also describe the sheaves corresponding to
small instantons.Comment: 26 pages, LaTex, 3 figures, references adde
A New Genus, Six New Species, and Records of Protura from Michigan
A new genus, Proacerella (Acerentomidae), and six new species, Proacerella reducta, Eosentomon prutzi, E. sociale, E. pomari, E. brassicae, and Protentomon michiganense are described from various sites in Michigan. Records of previously described species are also listed \u27for the species Eosentomon vermiforme Ewing, E. wheeleri Silvestri, Proturentomon iowaense Womersley, Acerentulus confinis (Berlese), Amerentulus americanus (Ewing), and Yamatentomon barberi (Ewing)
The Airfloat HL project
A design study is described for a large low-cost rigid airship intended primarily for the movement of large indivisible loads (cargo) between industrial sites. A survey of the ship and its overall performance is followed by accounts of the operational procedures for the above function and for an alternative application to unit module transfer between fixed terminals. A final section indicates the estimated costs of construction and operation. Safety factors are also considered. Lifting devices such as winches, hoists are shown and described, and airship configurations are also shown
Calibration and alignment of metrology system for the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array mission
A metrology system to measure the on-orbit movement of a ten
meter mast has been built for the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) x-ray observatory. In this paper, the metrology system is described, and the performance is measured. The laser beam stability is discussed in detail. Pre-launch alignment and calibration are also described. The invisible infrared laser beams must be aligned to their corresponding detectors without deploying the telescope in Earth’s gravity. Finally, a possible method for in-flight calibration of the metrology system is described
