Mystery, Humility and Religious Practice in the Thought of St John of the Cross
The âdark night of the soulâ is a common motif in Christian spiritual writing; and the locus classicus for this motif is the work of John of the Cross, a Spanish Carmelite friar of the sixteenth century. My aim in this paper is to use Johnâs account of the ânightâ to consider how the themes of mystery, humility and religious practice may be subsumed, and related to one another, within a Christian conception of God and of human life lived out in relation to God

The Mountains Are Calling
Mark Knappâs Relationship Model in Communication Studies attempts to limit human relationships to a specific, linear array of stages and categories. This research project attempts to critique the rigidity of Knappâs model, while simultaneously attempting to posit film as an incredibly influential tool (if not an alternative model entirely) for communication both diegetically â within the realm of the film â and in conversation with an audience. The silent nature of the creative filmed portion of this project is in direct opposition to Knappâs model, which inadvertently roots human relationships in language

From pattern appraisal to unitary appreciative inquiry - a critical reflection on the development of the unitary appreciative inquiry method
Summative Assessment of the Core Module âTheoretical Developments in the Science and Art of Nursingâ. The purpose of this article is to place Cowlingâs unitary appreciative inquiry method in the context of nursing science and the development of unique nursing research methods. Unitary appreciative inquiry is one of a few nursing research and practice methodologies based on Martha Rogersâ theory, the Science of Unitary Human Beings. This article is reflecting the development of the unitary appreciative inquiry method in analyzing articles and literature published by Cowling and other authors that are related to Cowlingâs ideas and approaches. A brief overview of the basic concepts, assumptions and principles of Rogersâ theory is given as well as some insights on other major influences on Cowlingâs work. The changes that have been made over the past seventeen years from pattern appraisal to pattern appreciation and unitary appreciative inquiry in its current use are mapped and its contribution to current nursing knowledge and practice is critically reviewed. The author of this article strongly beliefs that nursing needs to develop its own research methods based on nursing theories for further development and improvement of nursing science as an independent and accepted discipline in human health care. It is from that perspective that Cowlingâs work is reviewed
This essay emphasizes how Vico was one of the modern philosophers to
set himself the goal to reconstruct the history of the primitive world. Differently
from several authors who preceded him and also other contemporary thinkers,
the Neapolitan philosopher showed that the world of the origin wasnât idyllic,
but it was affected by fear, anguish and basic needs. What mainly characterizes
Vico, however, is the fact that he represented the primitive world not as a unitary
and fixed block, but as a world made of different historical phases and of class
and social conflicts. As there were no written documents, Vico elaborated a
reconstruction of history, basing it on a new and revolutionary theory of myths
which, being based on creativity induced by fantasy, are called âuniversali
fantasticiâ (fantastic universals)
Review of Chagas Disease and Treatment Obstacles to Eradication
The World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control reports Chagas disease, or American trypanosomiasis, as a major neglected tropical disease prevalent in 21 endemic Latin American countries. The agent of the disease is a single-celled protozoan parasite, Trypanosoma cruzi, and common modes of transmission include infected feces of a triatomine bug, crossing the placental barrier, and blood products. The two phases of infection are acute and chronic, and the three most affected body systems are cardiovascular, digestive, and nervous. Although research has led to several advances in the knowledge of CD, there are gaps in treatment and epidemiological research, leaving millions of people susceptible to infection
