Cyberstalking, Personal Privacy, and Moral Responsibility
This essay examines some ethical aspects of stalking incidents in cyberspace. Particular attention is focused on the Amy Boyer/Liam Youens case of cyberstalking, which has raised a number of controversial ethical questions. We limit our analysis to three issues involving this particular case. First, we suggest that the privacy of stalking victims is threatened because of the unrestricted access to on-line personal information, including on-line public records, currently available to stalkers. Second, we consider issues involving moral responsibility and legal liability for Internet service providers (ISPs) when stalking crimes occur in their `space\u27 on the Internet. Finally, we examine issues of moral responsibility for ordinary Internet users to determine whether they are obligated to inform persons whom they discover to be the targets of cyberstalkers
Ethical Reflections on Cyberstalking
This essay examines some ethical aspects of stalking behavior in cyberspace. We have argued elsewhere that recent online stalking incidents raise a wide range of ethical concerns, including issues affecting gender (Grodzinsky and Tavani, 2001), personal privacy (Tavani and Grodzinsky, 2002), and physical vs. virtual harm (Grodzinsky and Tavani, 2002). The primary axis of discussion in this essay has to do with implications that cyberstalking has for our notion of moral responsibility, both at the collective (or group) and individual levels. For example, do collectivities and organizations such as Internet service providers (ISPs) have any moral obligations to cyberstalking victims, which go beyond legal obligations covered in strict liability law? And do ordinary Internet users have a moral obligation to inform (and possibly also to assist) persons whom they discover to be the targets of online stalkers? In our analysis of these questions, particular attention is paid to a cyberstalking incident involving Amy Boyer

Utilitarian Analysis of Mass Surveillance : Panopticons and Privacy
Utilitarian thinking comes under the wider framework of normative ethical theories which judges the morality of any act based on the outcomes achieved. Normative Ethics is the discipline of social sciences that comes under the head of philosophy which is based on moral principles. Based on such moral principles, any act is being considered as either right or wrong. Like any other domain, cyberspace also has some ethical values. To understand the ethics on Cyberspace, first we need to understand that how internet works and how many layers it has and what kind of activities are possible over every layer, respectively.
This thesis aims to explain the privacy issues caused by Panopticons related to illegal, unethical, and un-consensual mass surveillance across the internet via using various insidious methodologies. It also explains that who panopticons are and how this terminology came into existence and how it replicates current era’s mass surveillance? Moreover, it addresses the parameters under which any surveilling authority could be declared as a Panopticon.
It explains that how and why Panopticons are doing unauthorized, unethical and non-consensual mass surveillance and how that surveillance actually takes place and up to which extent Panopticons have gone to achieve their desired mode of surveillance and it highlights different actors that are involved in mass surveillance at different scales via different techniques. The involvement of Governments with or without the collaboration of Private Internet companies has also been a shady topic exactly till Snowden made his revelations which later on caused a drastic awareness among masses and opened new doors of discussion as well as urged authorities to take some practical measures in order to curb the mass surveillance. That is why, Snowden’s revelations have been taken as a case study to present the depth and techniques of mass surveillance that are in practice both by private and government organizations.
The analysis part holds the primary importance in this thesis, that’s why the thesis concludes with analyzing ethical aspects of Mass Surveillance via Utilitarian point of view which analyzes the Snowden’s act of reveling classified information and the corresponding top three accusations posed on him by USA’s house of representatives, followed by legal and cultural implications

Ethics – research, engineering, design… they’re all the same aren’t they?
This paper considers how and to what extent product design ethics is understood by professionals in design practice and undergraduate students of product and engineering design and how, if at all, design ethics differ from engineering and/or research ethics. This paper reports on a study carried out at Bournemouth University with undergraduate students of Engineering Design and Product Design and with design professionals via the Institution of Engineering Designers. As part of their final year project work all undergraduate students at Bournemouth University are required to comply with the Bournemouth University Research Ethics Code of Practice [9] which means that students are aware of ethical principles in general and the study explored the extent to which students understand them in relation to design. The study also used the ‘LinkedIn’ discussion forum to get the perspective of design practitioners. The paper concludes that designers do seem to share a broadly common understanding of design ethics and that the main difference with design ethics is in the scope, complexity and the human interface. A definition of product design ethics is presented and the essence of a Statement of Principles for product design ethics proposed
