Drawing Education – Worldwide!
As a cultural technique, drawing was firmly anchored in the realities of European society from early modern to modern times. Based on this fact, the present volume asks for the first time about the significance of drawing and drawing education in other cultural areas. Indigenous methods of drawing and sign-learning in Arabic, Asian, Latin American, North American and European countries are addressed as well as historical transfer processes of didactic methods, aesthetic norms and educational institutions of drawing instruction

THE ROLE OF JAVANESE CULTURE IN CHARACTER BUILDING AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Nowadays, character education becomes a major concern in Indonesia. Character development has been done
by various strategy, but the results is yet to be seen. Character development should beginin elementary school
in order that the children's charactercould formed early so that it could be developed until they are mature.
One of the efforts of character building is integrating the local wisdom in learning. One of them is the
Javanese culture. Javanese culture has a variety of rules called the "unggah-ungguh" that always give good
models to the public community, especially to the Javanese. Along with the times, the Javanese culture that
upholds ethics began to degraded and replaced by foreign cultures that came later. The parents’ roles in
instilling the Javanese culture to their children also decreased gradually. This paper will examine the Javanese
culture’s roles toward the character building in elementary schools’ students. Descriptive method supported by
a depth review of the literature and the previous studies is used in this paper as a method. Based on the results
of these reviews, we obtain some information about the types and mechanisms of Javanese culture in character
building of students, especially elementary school students

BUILDING STUDENTS’ CHARACTER BY ENGAGING SOCIAL STUDIES ISSUES IN LANGUAGE TEACHING
This paper focuses on analyzing the importance of character building in language teaching, and finding
ways how to take advantages from engaging social studies issues within a pedagogical framework. Using
social studies issues as topics in teaching English not only enable students to effectively acquire a foreign
language with the knowledge and skills but also raise their awareness and critical thinking of our society
problems. The globalization with its positive and negative affects has made our generation carried away by
the currents of change of being a stranger in their own backyard and forget our own cultural identities.
Many of the scenes and themes shown on the television, Internet and other media channels often run down
the values and ideas of our national positive characters traits. In this point of view, teaching language by
engaging social studies issues to build students’ character and national identity can enhance students
understanding toward the importance of its moral values as their inspiration to be a better person, and
improve their English as well. This paper will describe how an engagement of social studies issues can be
an alternative learning tool utilized in language teaching to develop students’ character and national
identity. Also, to provide the benefit from this approach students can get in learning English

Conference (11a : 2018 : Barcelona, Catalunya),ICDHS is the acronym of the International Committee of DeÂsign History and Design Studies, an organisation that brings together scholars from Spain, Cuba, Turkey, Mexico, Finland, Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, Portugal, the US, TaiÂwan, Canada and the UK. Since 1999, when the Design and Art History departments of the University of Barcelona organised the first edition of the ICDHS, a conference has been held every two years at a different venue around the world. These conferences have had two disÂtinct aims: first, to present original research in the fields of Design History and Design Studies and, second, to include contributions in these fields from non-hegemonic countries, offering a speaking platform to many scientific communities that are already active or are forming and developing. For that reason, the structure of the conferences combines many paralÂlel strands, including poster presentations and keynote speakÂers who lecture on the conferences’ main themes. The 2018 event is rather special. The Taipei 2016 conference was the 10th edition and a commemoration of the ten celebrations to date. Returning to Barcelona in 2018 marks the end of one stage and the beginning of a new one for the Committee. The numbering chosen—“10+1”—also means that Barcelona 2018 is both an end and a beginning in the ICDHS’s own history. The book brings together 137 papers delivered at the ICDHS 10th+1 Conference held in Barcelona on 29–31 October 2018. The papers are preceded by texts of the four keynote lectures and a written tribute from the ICDHS Board to its founder and figurehead, Anna Calvera (1954–2018). The Conference, and the book, are dedicated to her memory
