Cross-case analysis
Prior to the development of low-cost computing and the ease of completing statistical analysis, case studies played a significant role in the development of the social sciences. However, since the mid-1990s statistical modelling and empirically driven work has come to dominate academic literature; yet there remain epistemological similarities between some forms of case study work and statistical modelling. Nonetheless, issues of the qualitative versus quantitative divide and the purported role of value judgments made by the researchers have in part muddied the waters until quite recently, when the researchers using statistical methods started to adopt the use of the first person in their writing and began to recognise that the choice of a given statistical technique is just as surely a value judgment or exercise of experience and expertise as is any interpretation of text by a qualitative researcher. Similarly, qualitative researchers have become increasingly familiar with textual analysis using software programmes based on neural network theory, and a new generation of researchers have become comfortable with a mixed method mode of analysis
A comparative analysis of the effects of teaching writing in a foreign language with the application of the deductive and the inductive approach
The aim of this paper is to present and analyse the results of the study which focused on measuring the effectiveness of the deductive and inductive approach in teaching writing in a foreign language. The aim will be achieved through the introduction of a relevant theoretical background, the presentation of the research design, a brief description of the research and finally the presentation and analysis of the outcomes
Lifecycle information for E-literature: an introduction to the second phase of the LIFE project
Introduction: The first phase of LIFE (Lifecycle Information For E-Literature) made a major contribution to
understanding the long-term costs of digital preservation; an essential step in helping institutions
plan for the future. The LIFE work models the digital lifecycle and calculates the costs of
preserving digital information for future years. Organisations can apply this process in order
to understand costs and plan effectively for the preservation of their digital collections
The second phase of the LIFE Project, LIFE2, has refined the LIFE Model adding three new
exemplar Case Studies to further build upon LIFE1. LIFE2 is an 18-month JISC-funded project
between UCL (University College London) and The British Library (BL), supported by the
LIBER Access and Preservation Divisions. LIFE1 was completed in April 2006. LIFE2 started
in March 2007, and was completed in August 2008.
This summary aims to give an overview of the LIFE Project, summarising some of the key outputs.
There are four main areas discussed:
1 From LIFE1 to LIFE2 outlines some of the key findings from the first phase of the project
as well as summarising the motivation behind this second phase.
2 The LIFE Model describes the current version of the model (version 2) which has been
thoroughly updated from the first phase.
3 LIFE2 Case Studies describes the three new Case Studies for LIFE2. It does not include the
results from the Case Studies (these are available in the overall LIFE2 Report), but offers
some background on each of the studies as well as discussion of why they were chosen.
4 Findings and Conclusions outlines all of the findings and outputs from the entire project

Flower Biology of Two Diospyros Species Neighborly Live at Csc Area: Do Pollen Viability and Tube Growth Rate Shire Endemic Distribution
Aims of study were to compare flower structure, pollen viability and pollen tube growth rate of two Diospyros species neighborly live in Cibinong Science Centre (CSC) park, Diospyros blancoi and D. celebica, and pursue if pollen-tube growth rate shire reasons endemic distribution of D.celebica in native habitat. Floral structurewas in situ or ex situ morphologically observed. Germination test and pollen tube growth incubation were done in Sarfatti medium and digitally captured and computerize analysis. The result showed that, both species have flower part resemblance each other. D. blancoi has bigger size in almost all flower parts. D. blancoi showed much more pollen viability (41% vs 7%) and tube growth rate than D. celebica1 (66 vs 0.57 μm per minute). Average pollen-tube length of both species at about 31/2 hours incubation was significantly different each other (342.679 ± 37.067 vs 128,673 ± 49,215μm). Most observed D. blancoi female trees set high number of fruit year to year and almost observed D. celebica female trees set very low number of fruit and some time without fruit in the year. It is associated with geographical distribution difference between the two species. Very significantlydifferent in pollen-germination percentage and pollen-tube growth rate provide a tool of further study to know microenvironment for reproduction and propagation of the endemic species, D. celebica
The Research of Technological Approach to the Modeling of Information and Analytic Provision of Managing an Enterprise
The article is devoted to the solution of actual problems of innovative development of information and analytical provision of managing an enterprise according to the newest technology. A number of recommendations concerning technological upgrading foundation of modernization of information and analytic provision of managing an enterprise are elaborated. Technological approach to the modeling of information provision of business management is substantiated. Actualizing information and analytic provision of managing an enterprise has been carried out in developed flexible information system that is organized as internal network structure. Technological foundation of information and analytical process enterprise to modernize has been considered based on the modern tools of information and communication decisions. Information and analytical provision of managing have been developed through internal and external parallels of impact, which interconnection coordinates theory, methodology and organization of information processes with actualization of its model. The model of information and analytic provision of managing an enterprise according to the individual characteristics of corporate culture, and information environment and development strategy of business entity on the basis of characteristics of technological provision of information process is developed. Does beak size affect acoustic frequencies in woodcreepers?
We assessed the effect of beak morphology on the acoustic structure of woodcreeper (subfamily Dendrocolaptinae) songs using a comparative analysis of independent contrasts. For the song of each species, we measured the maximum and minimum frequencies, the bandwidth, and the emphasized frequency. Residuals of variationin beak length and acoustic frequencies after controlling for body size and phylogeny were calculated for each species and compared. We found a negative relationship between the residuals of acoustic frequencies and the residuals of beak length. This relationship was significant for emphasized frequency when we excluded two open-habitat species, Scimitar-billed Woodcreeper (Drymornis bridgesii) and Narrow-billed Woodcreeper (Lepidocolaptes angustirostris).This result is consistent with the hypothesis that the suprasyringeal vocal tract has resonating properties that affect the frequency spectrum of the song.Fil: Palacios, María Gabriela. Thanks to internet, “anytime, anywhere” access to information quite far outweighs its downsides. In the paper, the author focuses on the efficient use of the Internet as a tool which helps to communicate with clients. The reaction to inquiries sent by email influences both booking behavior and guest satisfaction as well. The objective of the survey presented in this paper is to test empirically response behavior to Internet enquiries. In particular, response time and information quality of received answers (information depth) were also analyzed.

Generator Systems for Marine Current Turbine Applications: A Comparative Study
Emerging technologies for marine current turbines are mainly related to works that have been carried out on wind turbines and ship propellers. It is then obvious that many electric generator topologies could be used for marine current turbines. As in the wind turbine context, doubly-fed induction generators and permanent magnet generators seem to be attractive solutions for harnessing the tidal current energy. In this paper, a comparative study between these two generator types is presented and fully analyzed in terms of generated power, maintenance, and operation constraints. This comparison is done for the Raz de Sein site (Brittany, France) using a multiphysics modeling simulation tool. This tool integrates, in a modular environment, the resource model, the turbine hydrodynamicmodel, and generator models.
