The Staffing of Presidential Assistants: Their Effect on Presidential Success in the House of Representatives
This paper examines the Congressional success of United States Presidents based on the reported Congressional Quarterly Presidential Box Scores. Their individual success is examined as an effect of the senior staff member a President chooses and whether they are chosen from the campaign, personal experience, or previous administrations. It is important for a President to consider the origins of these staffers as these Assistants to the President act as the body of the President’s administration. The econometric analysis presented reveals several interesting results. First, the predominance of a President to choose staff members from his campaign shows no significant impact on his Congressional relations and success. Second, staff members chosen from personal experience have a negatively correlated hindrance on success. Finally, those members chosen for their experience in previous administrations has a positive impact on Presidential success. This research is used to supplement the existing, qualitative research on the subject through regression analysis
New York City's Middle-Grade Schools: Platforms for Success or Pathways to Failure?
This report, which is part of the New York City Coalition for Educational Justice's (CEJ) campaign to transform the city's middle-grade schools into platforms for success for all our city's students, demonstrates that New York City's middle-grade schools are failing to prepare students for the rigorous high school work that will enable them to succeed in college. That failure assumes crisis proportions for African American and Latino students. This report is the next stage in CEJ's campaign to mobilize the energies of parents, students, community organizations, advocacy and policy groups, youth and social service agencies, and religious organizations to transform our middle-grade schools from pathways to failure into platforms for success for all our city's public school students

Myths and lessons of liberal intervention: The British campaign for the abolition of the Atlantic slave trade to Brazil

In particular, such accounts reproduce two and a half myths about the campaign: that it can serve as a model for the present age; that the success of the campaign can be explained through the actions of the intervening party alone (with a corresponding neglect of those of the ‘target’ state); and the half-myth that the campaign’s success was due to military action (at the expense of institutional (legal) and normative factors and the capacity of the target state). I argue instead that this case – and interventions more generally – would benefit from an analysis that considers the role of force in relation to a series of residual institutional and cultural constraints within the liberal state and to political conditions in the target state. In light of the complexities and contingencies that these factors present the underlying lesson is that military force should be used sparingly, if at all

Target Advertising Effects on Campaign Success
Nearly every company and organization advertises to increase awareness, reach sales goals, and build brand loyalty. However, due to the pervasive nature of advertising, reaching an audience has become more difficult and less successful. An increasing number of marketers are relying on detailed, targeted advertising to reach the most likely consumer of a particular brand, service or idea.
First, past research and marketing information is analyzed and explained. Next, a study was conducted to determine how marketers utilize targeting methods and practices. Ten advertising professionals were asked open-ended questions regarding budget, direct marketing, technology and social media. The results showed that, while each account will use different methods to varying extents, targeted and direct advertising is vital to a successful campaign. As technology continues to develop and new targeting practices are made available, future research will determine the full extent of using specific strategies and tactics to reach the most promising consumer

Why They Say No (Casi— No ): Countries that Reject Legalized Casino Gambling
Most world venues have legalized casino gambling. Indeed, the numbers of venues has been growing rapidly. In 1986, seventy-seven nations permitted legal casino gambling; in 1996, 109; while recent reports indicate 132 countries have casinos. Nonetheless, there are several cases of jurisdictions rejecting the legalization of casinos.
This article seeks to find common reasons for the rejections, and examines the following ten venues: Bhutan, Brazil, Japan, Liechtenstein, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, and Norway. The study utilizes a framework from the book The Last Resort: Success and Failure in Campaigns for Casinos, by John Dombrink and William N. Thompson. The authors developed a “Veto Model” for explaining why American states rejected casinos in the decades before 1990. Major veto factors influencing casino campaign outcomes included: (1) the economic conditions and state experiences with gambling, (2) the position of political and business elites, and other gaming interests; (3) campaign sponsorship; and (4) whether the dominant issue in a campaign was economics or crime and social problems.
