New York City Zoning -- 1961-1991: Turning Back The Clock -- But With An Up-To-The-Minute Social Agenda
Since the last update over 30 years ago, there is a need to once again change our zoning laws. Over the years, societal concerns and priorities have fluctuated with the times and, as a result, exceptions have been made to the zoning regulations which reflect these changing social interests. The result is a Zoning Resolution which stands at 806 pages (and still counting). It is an ad-hoc, convoluted, chaotic non-plan for the City, held together by binders rather than a common vision. This essay examines the zoning history of New York City and concludes that a new Comprehensive Reassessment, which will guide future development in accordance with the needs and values of today\u27s society, is needed to unify the goals of city planning and to reinvigorate the potential effectiveness of zoning in New York City
The architecture of business centers in major cities of independent Kazakhstan
Introduction: The study aims to determine the main trends in the formation of business centers in Kazakhstan’s two largest cities, Almaty and Nur-Sultan, and to develop the main city planning and architectural recommendations for improving the network of business centers and their maintenance. Materials and Methods: The study’s systemic and complex research methodology allows it to look at business center issues from a variety of perspectives, including economic, socio-political, legislative, urban planning, and innovation. This approach allowed the architecture of business centers to be highlighted as a dynamic, interrelated process that represents the state’s economic power and prestige. Results and Discussion: The identification of trends in the development of business centers as the main type of commercial real estate is intrinsically linked to their natural qualitative growth and structural metamorphoses, transforming future cities into business cities, business parks, business incubators, and eco-towns. Conclusions: The study revealed that a specific feature of the business center is the distinction in its space-planning structure of the recreational and communicative block of premises and rooms into a separate independent functional block, which, both locally and dispersed spatially, carries an ideological and logical practical load and is a functional space for a multi-purpose business building
Celebrating memory and space : three case studies of centennial projects to commemorate Oklahoma's history.
In 2007, Oklahoma celebrated its centennial with many different events and functions. To commemorate the anniversary, lawmakers established the Oklahoma Centennial Commission. They set out to find and fund projects throughout the state. The projects created by the commission make use of different forms of memory and space. They contribute to the creation of an Oklahoma identity that celebrates the state's history. This thesis comprises three case studies that examine three different and unique projects created by the Centennial Commission. Each describes the development of the project and then analyzes the historical and spatial themes used. All three studies make use of extensive field observations to interpret these themes. The findings of this work indicate that the Oklahoma Centennial Commission succeeded in helping to create an Oklahoma identity and used many different themes of memory and space to accomplish this

Utilization of urban design principles in designing the urban space case studies on the Netherlands and Turkey
Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, City and Regional Planning, Izmir, 2007Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 198-204)Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and Englishxiv, 204 leavesThis thesis aims to develop a concept model as a tool for successful urban space design by defining general principles and therefore to stress the importance of defining and using these criteria when realizing projects. Moreover, the thesis research aims to provide concrete examples for designers to get to know how to integrate these principles practically into design and implementation process.
