Electronic Structure, Electron-Phonon Coupling, and Multiband Effects in MgB2
We review the current situation in the theory of superconducting and
transport properties of MgB2. First principle calculations of of the electronic
structure and electron-phonon coupling are discussed and compared with the
experiment. We also present a brief description of the multiband effects in
superconductivity and transport, and how these manifest themselves in MgB2. We
also mention some yet open questions.Comment: Physica C, in pres
The Salyut-6: The hopes of terrestrial science
The workday of the Salyut-6 cosmonauts is discussed. A brief summary of the experiments on board is given. A mention is made of a German cosmonaut on board and his use of the German-made MKF-6M. This camera which was used only recently received a high evaluation from the scientists involved
Arbitrarily Large Continuous-Variable Cluster States from a Single Quantum Nondemolition Gate
We present a compact experimental design for producing an arbitrarily large
optical continuous-variable cluster state using just one single-mode vacuum
squeezer and one quantum nondemolition gate. Generating the cluster state and
computing with it happen simultaneously: more entangled modes become available
as previous modes are measured, thereby making finite the requirements for
coherence and stability even as the computation length increases indefinitely.Comment: (v2) 5 pages, 4 color figures, added brief mention of fault

Resource Letter TF-1: Turbulence in Fluids
This Resource Letter provides a guide to the literature on fully developed
turbulence in fluids. It is restricted to mechanically driven turbulence in an
incompressible fluid described by the Navier-Stokes equations of hydrodynamics,
and places greatest emphasis on fundamental physical questions. Journal
articles and books are cited for the following topics: The Navier-Stokes
equations, qualitative aspects of turbulence, the 1941 Kolmogorov theory,
intermittency and small scale structure, time correlations and pressure; with
brief mention of two-dimensional turbulence, passive scalars in turbulence, and
the turbulent boundary layer,Comment: 38 pages LaTeX, no figures. To appear in American Journal of Physic
Moduli of Reflexive Sheaves on Smooth Projective 3-folds
We compute the expected dimension of the moduli space of torsion-free rank 2
sheaves at a point corresponding to a stable reflexive sheaf and give
conditions for the existence of a perfect tangent-obstruction complex on a
class of smooth projective threefolds; this class includes Fano and Calabi-Yau
threefolds. We also explore both local and global relationships between moduli
spaces of reflexive rank 2 sheaves and the Hilbert scheme of curves.Comment: 17 pages. Entire paper rewritten - discusses relationship between
moduli spaces of reflexive rank 2 sheaves and the Hilbert scheme of curves;
brief mention of Donaldson-Thomas invariant
