Evaluation du projet "Nuit blanche ?" à Genève 2006-2007 : l'avis des partenaires

    Get PDF
In general, PPARs must be activated by ligands to stimulate the expression of their target genes. These agonists can be synthetic molecules, such as drugs used to treat hypertriglyceridemia and insulin resistance, or natural physiological ligands, such as fatty acids and eicosanoids. Although recent work has uncovered a surprisingly broad variety of natural molecules capable of activating PPARs, relatively little is known about their mode of action in an in vivo physiological context. The action of physiological ligands in situations of food deprivation and abundance, especially with respect to their intervention in the inflammatory response, and in both lipid homeostasis and inflammation resolution will be reviewed

In particular, pro-apoptotic tumor necrosis factor (TNF) signals are blocked by proteins that are induced by NF-kappaB such as TNFR-associated factor 1 (TRAF1). Here we show that TRAF1 is cleaved after Asp-163 when cells are induced to undergo apoptosis by Fas ligand (FasL). The C-terminal cleavage product blocks the induction of NF-kappaB by TNF and therefore functions as a dominant negative (DN) form of TRAF1. Our results suggest that the generation of DN-TRAF1 is part of a pro-apoptotic amplification system to assure rapid cell death

    Get PDF
Through a review of the vast literature devoted to this question, this article aims to go beyond theoretical and methodological dead-ends. The article moves on to non-Western settings in order to better understand, via a macro-sociological and dynamic approach, the causal effects between mobilizations and repression. It pleads for a meso- and micro-level approach to this issue: an approach that puts analytical emphasis both on protest organizations and on individual activists' careers

Enquête en milieu psychiatrique, carcéral et migratoire [Can therapeutic decision-making be shared in clinical contexts that involve constraint? An investigation into psychiatric, prison, and migratory settings]

[Shared decision making is a concept whose value is indisputable in contemporary clinical practice. However, its obvious nature should not be misleading: it remains situated and must be negotiated in a variety of contexts. In this qualitative study, we question shared decision making in clinics deemed to be difficult (psychotic disorders, prison and migration), by analysing the discourses of institutions, healthcare professionals and patients. It is concluded that the legitimate expectation of the most democratic possible care practice cannot avoid compromises on the part of its actors, nor can it forget the importance of the active support of the institutions that supervise them. ]]]> shared decision-making; autonomy; psychiatry; prison clinic; migration clinic fre https://serval.unil.ch/resource/serval:BIB_1C859D53F304.P001/REF.pdf info:eu-repo/semantics/submittedVersion info:eu-repo/semantics/restrictedAccess Restricted: indefinite embargo Copying allowed only for non-profit organizations https://serval.unil.ch/disclaimer application/pdf oai:serval.unil.ch:BIB_1C85A07E048E 2022-05-07T01:11:55Z openaire documents urnserval <oai_dc:dc xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:oai_dc="http://www.openarchives.org/OAI/2.0/oai_dc/" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.openarchives.org/OAI/2.0/oai_dc/ http://www.openarchives.org/OAI/2.0/oai_dc.xsd"> https://serval.unil.ch/notice/serval:BIB_1C85A07E048E High levels of multiple Wolbachia infection and recombination in the ant Formica exsecta info:doi:10.1093/molbev/msg082 info:eu-repo/semantics/altIdentifier/doi/10.1093/molbev/msg082 info:eu-repo/semantics/altIdentifier/pmid/12679529 Reuter, M. Their spread through host populations is promoted by drastic alterations imposed on their hosts' reproductive physiology. In the present study, we analyzed the association between Wolbachia strains and host mitochondrial haplotypes in a Swiss population of the ant Formica exsecta. In this species, female dispersal is extremely limited and the mitochondrial haplotypes are strongly differentiated between and within subpopulations. Our study revealed exceptionally high levels of multiple infection, with all ants harboring four or five distinct Wolbachia strains. Four of these strains were present in all ants analyzed. A fifth strain was associated with only three of the five mitochondrial haplotypes. An analysis of the Wolbachia gene wsp further revealed an unexpected high rate of recombination, with three of the five Wolbachia strains appearing to have arisen by homologous recombination

Until 1996 they were considered the same species, E lugubris. To investigate whether the two species can be distinguished based on discrimination cues used by the workers we used the pupa-carrying test first introduced by Rainer Rosengren. In this test workers of discriminator colonies are faced with two kinds of pupae and their preferences for one of the types are recorded based on differential retrieval. Interspecific comparisons showed that ants preferred conspecific worker pupae to those of the sibling species regardless whether the pupae were con-colonial or hetero-colonial. Hence, this test can be used as a taxonomic tool to identify wood ants hardly distinguishable by morphological characters. In intraspecific comparisons the highly polygynous (many queens per colony) E paralugubris, the polygynous form of E lugubris and the monogynous (single queen per nest) to weakly polygynous form of E lugubris expressed different trends in their preference behaviour (with nestmate recognition in 14%, 20% and 31% of replicates, respectively). Only F paralugubris presented no significant nestmate recognition
