Montherlant lecteur de Montesquieu

Abstract

Montesquieu fait partie de ces classiques qu’Henry de Montherlant (1895-1972) a cités tout au long de sa vie et dont il a volontiers nourri son œuvre. Avec les hauts et les bas qu’on lui verra pour d’autres (anciens, modernes ou contemporains) que l’auteur des Lettres persanes,mais sans jamais l’oublier tout à fait. Montesquieu est même de ceux qu’il relit avec une attention particulière au début des années soixante quand il compose sa Guerre civile (1964).Montesquieu is one of those classics that Henry de Montherlant (1895-1972) quoted throughout his life and with which he willingly enriched his work. With the ups and downs that we will see for others (ancient, modern or contemporary) than the author of the Persian Letters, but without ever forgetting him entirely. Montesquieu is even one of those he reread with particular attention in the early 1960s when he composed his Civil War (1964)
