1973—1975年,随着冷战局势的发展,中法之间就欧洲问题的探讨变得更加频繁。两国就欧洲一体化的走向,是否该举行欧洲安全会议等问题进行了深入磋商。然而,由于两国在对待苏联的态度上产生了较大的分歧,最终未能对欧洲问题达成一致意见,从而增加了两国政治关系的不确定性
