Abstract

Indiana’s United Brethren Church was eager to establish a centrally located university in the Hoosier state, and on October 6, 1902, Indiana Central University was founded. In a deal with a local developer, the church board acquired eight acres in University Heights, four miles south of the city. A stately building with Greek columns soon began to rise at the intersection of Otterbein and Hanna, both dirt roads.Use of this image is restricted to projects related to Destination Indiana.
