Remote Control of Modern Trains

Abstract

Today a GPS-based computer system for dispatching trains has replaced the huge switchboard. It gives a computer-generated image of the track in real time: what trains are where and how fast they are going, also where there are crews doing track repairs, and track sections with speed restrictions. The dispatcher becomes a virtual second person in the locomotive cab. In an emergency, a train can be stopped from the dispatcher’s desk.Use of this image is restricted to projects related to Destination Indiana.Destination Indiana Transportation by Rail Railroad Worker
