DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS ON THE PIPELAY VESSEL

Abstract

Decision support systems on pipelay vessel serve to provide users with up to date, correct, accurate and clear image of the condition of the pipelaying system in order to assist in decision-making. They are the product of an evolution of automation systems. Systems are integrated using complex hardware and software equipment, with the programmable logic controller as the central unit of the system and with software written in ladder-diagram. If the series of logical conditions based on the sensor feedback are met, warning system should notify user in time. Redundant data servers are used to store and later analyze historical data, while the certain data is sent to the shore to enable the remote supervision. Systems are subjected to change in order to improve, while informing users about decision-making options as early and as accurately as possible, with special emphasis on improving the protection of human life, the environment and company’s asset
