A study on the free suspension of a large drop of magnetic liquid via an actively controlled magnetic field gradients which support the drop against gravity was performed. The suspended drop was forced to oscillate by applying a time-dependent perturbation to the supporting magnetic field. The ellipsoidal modes were observed for small amplitude oscillations. A simple analytical expression of the fully nonlinear oscillation of the drop was derived as the function of driving frequency and applied field
