Abstract

Local Name: AtaköyLocal Informant: Halil Yuruk, muhtar of AtaköyLocal Information: Muhtar of Ataköy also mentioned a nearby black-marble quarry. ** He also informed us about two other olive presses. One is in his own garden, a second Damdere, and the other at Haci's field.Latitude: 37.45.03.96Longitude: 28.41.30.48Elevation: 629mDescription: Small settlement on a mound with visible traces of rough walls in teh surface. Clearest traces of walls are visible in scarp where the hillside has been recently terraced for a new olive grove. Numerous pottery and tile fragments and two large marble agricultural blocks (socket block (C039) [D2005.0096] and counterweight block (?) [D2005.0110-11]). Site is located atop a natural limestone outcrop, partially leveled off for building. Evidence of quarrying on south side of outcrop. On top, robber's pit with petit appareil blocks and fragments of large pithos.Finds: Many small black flies. Pottery dates occupation to 1st c BC/AD through 4th/5th c AD.
