An essay for the catalogue accompanying the exhibition Political/Minimal at Kunstwerke, Berlin, November 30, 2008 - January 25, 2009. The exhibition, curated by Klaus Biesenbach, subsequently travelled to Muzeum Sztuki, Lodz. The essay analyses the importance of the political dimension in the adoption and use of minimal form by the key artists associated with Minimalism, Arte Povera and other tendencies in the 1960s, including Donald Judd, Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Hans Haacke, On Kawara, and Michelangelo Pistoletto
