Abstract

Treasures letter from Jefferson; asks Jefferson's assistance regarding titles which Mr. DuPont, bearer of letter, will explain. Enclosure: Congress granted the Wabash Company lands which they gave to Conrad Alexandre Gerard while he was French minister to the United States; Louis XVI authorized Gerard to receive the land in question; the heirs of the deceased M. Gerard made inquiries about the land through C. Otto, but have received no information except that the Wabash concession may be annulled; inquires about status of gift to Gerard in recognition of his services to America in the negotiation of the treaty of 1778 and as first minister of France to the United States.College of William and Mary.
