. The growth of industrial estate in the suburbs of Jakarta Metropolitan Area (Jabodetabek) has attracted a large number of workers, increasing commuting from the city to the suburbs. Using the case study of Cikarang, Bekasi, our analysis reveals that the worker commute not just from the surrounding suburb but also from the metropolitan core of Jakarta and other suburbs outside Bekasi. There has been a shift of commuting pattern between the city and the suburbs indicating thatthe metropolitan area begins to experience industrial employment deconcentration, at least toward the eastern suburb of Cikarang. A number of demographic and socio-economic characteristics has been related to this new commuting pattern
