AbstractThe paper presents alternative methods used for teaching the history and development of human settlements. The aims of this approach were: understanding the complex issues associated with town planning and applying the theories for the development of a human settlement. In the last two years, the team has applied these methods with second year students at the Faculty of Architecture. The paper describes the methods, how they were used and the outcomes. The analysis of the process reveals that alternative methods of teaching applied together are the most efficient when learning about complex problems
