Abstract

Lithium manganese oxide Li0.82MnO2 was prepared by soft chemical synthetic route at low temperatures using Na0.44MnO2 as a starting compound. The chemical composition and the Na0.44MnO2-type framework structure of the obtained Li0.82MnO2 sample were confirmed by using ICP and XRD Rietveld analyzes. The electrochemical measurements between 4.8 and 2.5 V showed that the initial charge and discharge capacities were 200 and 192 mAh g−1, respectively, with the initial coulombic efficiency of 96%. The discharge capacity retention rate was 92 % after 30 cycles. The rate capability test revealed the Li0.82MnO2 sample retains 96% and 82 % of its discharge capacity in going from 0.2C to the 1C and 5C rates, respectively. Li0.82MnO2 is suggested to be one of the promising high-capacity positive electrodes in advanced lithium-ion batteries
