Low-energy ion scattering investigations of catalysts I

Low-energy ion scattering (LEIS) provides unique information on the composition and structure of the outermost layers of a solid. Recent progress in both theory and experiment have led to the development of new methods of catalyst characterization.\u3cbr/\u3e\u3cbr/\u3eThe fundamental principles of LEIS are first discussed. These principles are then applied to investigate the surface structure of oxides and La/γ-Al2O3, MO/γ -Al2O3 and Mo/SiO2. It is shown that quantification of the LEIS results seriously effects earlier models for these supports and catalysts.\u3cbr/\u3
