Improving Protection and Security Awareness Amongst Home Users

By Benjamin Richardson

Abstract

The rising number and volume of threats that home users face on the Internet means that they need to be completely security aware in order to stay safe online. This project looks at the different threats that face home users giving recent statistics which highlight how serious the problem is. It focuses on how children receive their awareness of such security issues in order to keep themselves safe. Problems that exist in schooling are examined which were revealed through a survey involving school teachers which was conducted for this project. Discussion is given to the changes that are currently being made in schools and the question of responsibility is debated. The project looks at moves that the government has made to ensure that children are safe and examines the role that parents have in supervising their children. Brief recommendations are given on how the problem of Internet security could be improved, and suggestions for possible research that could be conducted in the future are given, which if carried out, could advance our understanding of the issue.School of Computing, Communications and Electronic
