PUBLIC OPINION IN THE CASE OF THE REFUGEE CRISIS REGARDING THE MEDIA AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Abstract

Mediji veljajo danes kot četrta veja oblasti. Imajo moč, da vplivajo na stališča javnosti in (so)oblikujejo naša mnenja. V diplomskem delu smo raziskovali vpliv medijev in socialnih omrežij na primeru zadnje begunske krize in poskušali dokazati, koliko in na kakšen način mediji vplivajo na našo percepcijo o beguncih. Uporabili smo eksperimentalne, komparativne in deskriptivne metode, da bi čim bolje dosegli zastavljene hipoteze, prav tako pa smo tudi raziskovali, kateri medij ali socialno omrežje je imelo največ vpliva na mnenje o beguncih v Sloveniji. Dokazali smo, da imajo mediji velik vpliv in da so socialna omrežja čedalje pomembnejši faktor v oblikovanju javnega mnenja.Media is considered as the fourth branch of government nowadays. It has the power to influence and partly form public opinion. In this thesis we studied the influence of media and social networks in the case of the last refugee crisis and tried to prove how much and in what way the media influenced public perception of refugees. We used experimental, comparative and descriptive methods to achieve the goals we set. We have also studied which kind of media or social networks shaped the public opinion on refugees in Slovenia the most. Evidence suggests that media have a major impact on how we form our opinions and social networks play an increasingly important role in their formation
