Abstract

Photograph of "Alessandro waiting for Ramona" on the Camulos Ranch, Ventura County, California, ca.1895. Alessandro can be seen at center. He wears a poncho and sombrero and leans against a white picket fence behind which the ranch house stands. Several tall citrus trees can be seen on the right, while mountains are visible in the background. The character and ranch were made famous in the novel, Ramona, by Helen Hunt Jackson
