Wall decorations at Mission San Juan Capistrano (San Luis Rey de Francia?), 1905

By 1861-1946 C.C. (Charles C.) Pierce

Abstract

Photograph (close-up) of wall decorations at Mission San Juan Capistrano, California, 1905. Many of the painted decorations are quite faded or worn. The upper designs include two identical figures -- discs each surrounded by three semi-circles. A wave-like design flows between the figures. There are five figures at bottom -- flame-shaped with a striped diamond within each. A design reminiscent of the Fleur-de-lis sits atop each of the lower figures. The wall is probably located at San Juan Capistrano and not San Juan Bautista (according to Norman Neuerburg, North Hollywood, 1955-8-26)
