IMPROVING THE DATA ACQUISITION EFFICIENCY OF THE CONFIGURATION CONTROL SYSTEM

Abstract

V magistrskem delu smo raziskovali izzive, povezane z učinkovitim zajemom sprememb konfiguracijskih podatkov, zagotavljanjem pravilnosti zajema in povečanjem uporabnosti procesa za zajem podatkov v specifičnem informacijskem sistemu. Glavni namen raziskave je bil najti rešitev, na kakšen način zajeti podatke, povečati stopnjo pravilnosti zajetih podatkov s pomočjo validacije in posledično povečati stopnjo uporabnosti sistema. Analiza rezultatov raziskave temelji na metodi anketiranja. V prvi fazi raziskave smo anketirali skupino uporabnikov obstoječega sistema za vzdrževanje konfiguracije. V drugi fazi smo izdelali testno posodobitev sistema za vzdrževanje konfiguracije z novimi tehnologijami (XML, XSD – XML shema, WS – spletne storitve). V tretji fazi raziskave smo anketiranje izvedli s ciljno skupino uporabnikov, ki je preizkusila testno posodobljeni sistem za vzdrževanje konfiguracije z novimi sodobnimi spletnimi tehnologijami. Rezultati analize odgovorov anketiranih uporabnikov so pokazali, da se z vpeljavo sodobnih spletnih tehnologij poveča stopnja pravilnosti zajetih podatkov in uporabnosti tovrstnega sistema. Poveča se učinkovitost in doseže enostavnost uporabe sistema za zajem konfiguracijskih podatkov, medtem ko zadovoljstvo med anketiranimi uporabniki ni bilo prepoznano. Z empiričnim raziskovanim pristopom smo ugotovili, da so uporabniki prepoznali posodobitev informacijskega sistema za vzdrževanje konfiguracije z novimi sodobnimi tehnologijami kot prispevek k učinkovitosti zajema podatkov in prispevek k uporabnosti.The emphasis of this master thesis is detailed research on ways of covering configuration data changes in information system, validation of acquired data and improvement of the usefulness of configuration data acquisition on a custom made information system. Main goal of the thesis is to find the optimal way of data acquisition and assure the lowest possible error occurrence in sample using the data validation and thus increasing the system usefulness. As a research method we used survey. In the first phase the survey was conducted among the users of the configuration control system and we gained the valuable data concerning the existing system. In the second phase the system was upgraded with the newest technologies (XML, XSD – XML scheme, WS - web services) and was tested in test environment by all of the end-users. The third phase consisted of the survey conducted among the users of test system in phase 2. The survey results are showing that the use of newest technologies in the system leads to improving the degree of sample correctness and system usefulness. This reflects to the overall increase of system efficiency and simplicity of use, but at the same time the satisfaction of the key users was not recognized. By using the empiric research method we concluded that the users recognized the upgrade of the configuration control system with newest technologies as a contribution in data acquisition efficiency and increase in system usefulness
