En-deçà du visage

Abstract

The topic of the face is at work as well in Freud's writings, considered in an onirical perspective, as in Levinas' meditation. In the development of both works this topic is approached according to two focuses : the mouth and the eyes. In freud, we find a mouth which was wounded in childhood and spit out again when he became sick. This is a disowned mouth which is incompatible with the claim to be in the position of a master. Accordingly there is a mourning within the access to knowlegde : the child's mouth has to be ejected in order to allow a scientific way of seeing to emerge. In Levinas' work a possibility is offered to restrict this denial of an oral vulnerability.Schneider Monique. En-deçà du visage. In: Les Cahiers du GRIF, n°46, 1992.
