Innovatives Design mit Hydroforming und Laserstrahlschmelzen

Abstract

The tubular steel chair has been the design of the modern classic – hydroforming can make the next step possible and give the tube itself a freeform shape. By the cooperation between designer Jörg Höltje and Fraunhofer IWU, the chair was formed in a generative, evolutionary process characterized by mutual exchange of ideas, technological limits, design standards and economic considerations. Thanks to the additive manufacturing technology of selective laser melting, it became possible to manufacture complex node elements required for building first prototypes of the new designer chair in extremely short time
