A variational approach to mean curvature flow with Dirichlet conditions.

Abstract

The generalised minimizing movement (GMM), a generalisation of the mean curvature flow proposed by E. De Giorgi, is studied for a hypersurface driven under its mean curvature. Under certain geometric assumptions on the initial datum, an existence result for GMM is established. A closely related result was given by F. J. Almgren, Jr., J. E. Taylor and L. Wang
