Abstract

4-Bromocyclopentenones I [R = Br, R1 = H, Me, MeO2CCH2, MeO2C(CH2)6] underwent solvolysis in refluxing H2O or H2O-dioxane to give 63-71% I (R = HO, R1 = same). Similarly, 41-57% I (R = MeO, R1 = same) were were obtained by solvolysis of I (R = Br) in refluxing MeOH
