A mineral reconnaissance of the Dent-Ingleton area of the Askrigg block, northern England

By J.H. Bateson and C.C. Johnson

The western margin of the Askrigg Block has been\ud investigated by regional geochemical reconnaissance.\ud This took the form of a drainage basin survey with the\ud collection of stream sediments (306 samples), panned\ud concentrates (149 samples), and waters (278 samples)\ud over an area of c.450 km2. In addition, following an\ud observation of a moss-like plant with tolerance to high\ud levels of base metals, a soil survey was carried out on\ud Tow Scar, 3 km to the northwest of Ingleton.\ud The drainage basin survey reveals no new major\ud mineralisation though minor mineral shows have been\ud located following investigation of some anomalous sites.\ud The soil survey led to the discovery of minor mineralisation,\ud which suggests that similar occurrences might exist\ud adjacent to the Craven Fault system east of Ingleton
