R2P and the ‘Protection’ of Indigenous Peoples

Abstract

The doctrine of "responsibility to protect" determines the existence of a State obligation to protect individuals against gross human rights violations. With respect to indigenous peoples, it translates in particular into a duty to allow them to live their life according to their own will, traditions and culture, protecting them from external interferences
