This paper explains how and why I plan to consider the identity of physiotherapy. My intention is to harness self-and group-reflection and the use of reason in a society of mixed values and opinions. I hope to generate mutual understandings of how individual physiotherapy professional identities are constructed, explicate some of the taken-for-granted notions within practice, and through this to enlighten and empower; that is, to generate the possibility of individual change through action based on an increased recognition of the existing relationships and praxis that individuals, and the profession, work within.
