How to choose the right school for a child with disabilities

By Sarah Shipley

Parents are exercising their right to choose schools for their children. When parents are given a choice they have a lot to consider, especially iftheir child has special needs. School choice has the potential to prompt positive changes in education but also the possibility of repeating the processes that have historically caused inequality in schools. The competition between neighborhood public schools and the public charter schools has influenced many parents to consider leaving their neighborhood school. This special project was developed to help parents make the best choice for their child with special needs so they can be part of improvements in education rather than supporting efforts that enable some schools to shine while other schools struggle
