Salve Deus Rex Judaeorum: A New Gospel For Women by Women

Abstract

The paper analyses Aemelia Lanyer\u27s Salve Deus Rex Judaeorum to show that her proto-feminist writing aimed at rich and powerful women is to gain support for women\u27s freer access to knowledge. The paper shows how Lanyer tries to bring about women\u27s equality through the spread of her re-evaluation of the Genesis story and the re-evaluation of the social standing of women
